Purple Turtle sponsorship bands

by Clyde1998 » 29 Dec 2024 12:18

I thought I should post the bands who've been playing outside the East Stand as part of the Purple Turtle sponsorship deal, as it seems a lot of them will be small, local bands who people may not have been aware of.

14 Dec (vs Blackpool) - Only the Poets
26 Dec (vs Northampton) - Bevendene
29 Dec (vs Mansfield) - The Stretch

We're certainly getting into smaller bands now:

Spotify numbers:
  1. Only the Poets - 115,351 monthly listeners / 89,386 followers
  2. Bevendene - 333 monthly listeners / 456 followers
  3. The Stretch - 372 monthly listeners / 534 followers
  4. The Verdaguers - NA monthly listeners / 114 followers
  5. Sonic Whip - 357 monthly listeners / 594 followers
Think it's great they'll get some good exposure!

Only The Poets were guests at a home game last season and, IIRC, Tommy, their lead singer, was interviewed at half-time. IMO a decent band with a big overseas following and likely to become much bigger and better known over the next couple of years. It will be good to be able to add a few more names to the 'famous people who support Reading' list!

That's a great booking for the final day.

I like the fact that it's there to showcase smaller bands as well, but for a big game like this one it seems fitting. Could get them to play Black Magic live as the teams walk out, from the stage, and it'll probably sound better than the stadium speakers.

If anyone went to the pre-season Purple Turtle a few years ago, the lead singer was surprisingly vocal on his dislike for Dai, especially considering it was a RFC organised gig. Does make me think that they've been given some indication that the takeover will be done.
