MATCHWATCH : Wycombe Wanderers (h)

by Sutekh » 02 Apr 2025 23:00

When : Saturday April 5 2025, 12.30pm
Where : Madejski Stadium, Reading, RG2 0FL
Capacity : 24,161

Wycombe next on the telly with a 12.30 kick off.

While the schoolboys continue to battle out a big load of bell end boggery that could well upend the entire season and make a complete mockery of the player’s efforts in yet another season, Reading have the difficult task of bettering the Wanderers charge to the play offs and get their own sights back on track.

Wycombe have won 4 and drawn 4 of their last 10 league games, the 2 defeats they’ve had in that run were to Birmingham and Wrexham so this game is not going to be easy. Their away form is the 6th best in the league so there’s no muggery to be had in the Chairboys camp on away days.

3 dangers to get the better of. Richard Kone has scored 18 times in the league so far, while Fred Onyedinma and Daniel Udoh have struck another 13 between them. Then there’s youngster Garath McLeary who still clocks up regular appearances and really will not need any encouragement.

Bindon should be able to return after illness so there is likely to be yet more defensive shuffles for the team. Hoping Dorsett and Elliott might get a places on the bench to be able to provide more of an illusion that there is some squad depth.

Lastly, depending on what action the FL decide to take over the continuing f**kwittery this last week, this game possibly may get cancelled or postponed or be the last home game the club get to play in the league this (or any other) season.

Referee

Thomas "captain" Kirk

Previously

31 Aug 24 > Reading 2-0 Charlton Athletic
04 Nov 23 > Reading 3-2 MK Dons (FA Cup)

Historically

Reading have won 5 out of 6 games against Wycombe at home in the league. However the 1 defeat they’ve they suffered was last season when Wycombe showed up (after a 1-1 draw at Adam’s Park earlier in the season) and walked away with a 2-1 win so Reading need to be careful and not let history repeat itself.

How to follow the game

  1. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  2. Now app/Sky red button
  3. Ring/text a mate for updates
  4. Use an RoyalTV subscription
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)
  6. Or you can always just go and get a ticket

Should be an interesting one, for obvious reasons!

What is the situation with buses for a 12:30 KO, Do they still start running 2 hours before kickoff?

Hopefully we will have recovered enough from Tuesday, especially considering the quad sub when we went 2-0 down, maybe even Bindon will finally be back.

I know its an early kick off but would be good to see 15,000 there tomorrow! Wycombe should sell out being just down the road and chasing an automatic spot and with homes games running out and the real possibility of being the last ever Reading season as we know it should pull on the heart strings......

......................Pereira
Abrefa, Mbengue, Bindon, Garcia
.......................Wing
............Knibbs......Savage
Campbell.......................Camara
................Ehibhatiomhan

Subs: Button, Bodin, Carroll, Rushesha, Wareham, Yiadom, Stickland.

No Elliott or Dorsett yet, Wareham's a bit hard done by to not keep playing striker, and we look rather weak down the flanks, especially left side. But strong through the middle.

I'd like to see a bit more from Bodin and Carroll.

Wareham is a much better player starting, than coming on.

Camara is either untouchable or anonymous.

I think my issue with midfield is ...

Either Elliott or Craig adds more than just a body and frees up Knibbs to play much further forwards or Wing to play with more freedom.

The three we've used for most of this season, while very good on their day, miss a natural bit of grit in the defensive side of things. To compensate, they all sit further back, so they're less able to do the spectacular at the other end of the pitch.

And having Knibbs or Elliott in midfield weakens our width/attacking options.

Guess we go with what we got cause what we got is what we got

Not a great start. Wycombe pressing us high and Mbengue keeps getting the long out ball wrong.

Wycombe already had the ball in the net, but thankfully offside

Oh dear. Garcia completely fluffed that and put us in a world of hurt, but Mbengue saves. Not that he.or Bindon were well positioned.

Do wish they’d get rid of that stupid rule of players having to go off having been treated.

Garcia needs to get back in the youth teams for a while. Making poor mistakes and having atrocious reactions to them.

Needs to buck up or get off sharpish.

Wycombe well on top. Giving the ball away cheaply.
