Playoff home semi and Are You Listening festival

by Philly Flyer » 14 Apr 2025 14:01

Afternoon Nobbers.

If (when!) we reach the playoffs in 6th place then our home semi will be on Sat 10/5 at a non-specified time (according to the EFL website) And if we win then some Nobbers may fancy a drink in town. But that is also the day that Are You Listening takes place in Reading, from midday, which means the Purple Turtle will be closed to non festival goers and the other bars will be a lot busier than usual, particularly from late afternoon/early evening onwards. I mention this as I am very much hoping that the play off KO will be at lunchtime so I can watch the match and then go to the festival.

Does anyone have any info on the likely KO time? It might also be interesting/challenging for Thames Valley Police to monitor a big crowd at the SCL the same day there are several thousand festival goers at multiple venues in the centre of Reading.

So if we make it we need to finish anywhere but 5th, as I am running the Bristol Half Marathon on Sunday morning!

Thanks and apologies that I missed that EFL posting. A relief that the game is at lunchtime but Reading will be busy.

6th is the one qualifying position Reading have yet to finish in

PO record summary
94-95 - finished 2nd (lost in po final)
00-01 - finished 3rd (lost in po final)
02-03 - finished 4th (lost in po semi)
08-09 - finished 4th (lost in po semi)
10-11- finished 5th (lost in po final)
16-17 - finished 3rd (lost in po final)

At least the midweek 2nd leg isn’t a league game so there might be a chance…. :?

I know we're bad at play offs but I'm always reassured by this run from Lincoln City in the 00s

2002–03 Division 3 6th - lost play off final
2003–04 Division 3 7th - lost play off semi
2004–05 League 2 6th - lost play off final
2005–06 League 2 7th - lost play off semi
2006–07 League 2 5th - lost play off semi

Since added another two play off defeats to that tally :?

Brackley Town’s record is a thing of beauty apparently. Currently on a run of 8 successive play off finishes and still waiting to win one.

I couldn't be there for the Huddersfield final, and that logic didn't work for me.

The Sky Bet EFL Play-Off Finals will take place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, with the Championship on Saturday 24 May, League One on Sunday 25 May and League Two on Monday 26 May.

I've booked a 2 week holiday driving around remote Scotland starting on the 10th, finishing with a wedding on play off final day on 25th. It shows how much this team has exceeded expectations, as it never crossed my mind it would clash with the play offs.

I've been through lots of play off heartache in person; I've seen us lose at Wembley/Cardiff 4 times. So it would be typical if the time we do it will be the time I'm not there.

Likewise. I will be on holiday in the US for the semis but fortunately will be back home in time for the final.
