Extended-Phenotype Anyone else remotely concerned that if we do secure a top 6 finish, Dai will drag this out further to see if we get promoted?

Absolutely...You wouldn't trust Dai an inch would you....but I think the EFL will really dig their heels in this time.
Other side of the coin is if we are booted out of the league, Couhig won't pay the asking price as we are worth even less....and Dai and his creditors get to keep a load of infrastructure that they can do bugger all with and a club that will pull in so few fans the losses will be horrendous......As a side subject I saw Bury got promotion and pulled in 8000 at the weekend. Well done them.

Only in the "anything is possible" way of looking at things. I think Dai knows the game is up now.

My assumptions is that the EFL would have already made it clear to the club and Dai that if they are not sold by 5 May that they won't be allowed to compete in the play offs.

The scary proposition right now is that Dai does gamble that he can get a last minute price increase out of Couhig, and is willing to see if the EFL is bluffing.

If we're kicked out of the EFL then, yeah, Bury would be a best case scenario.

I do actually think it'll happen because Dai doesn't have a choice. Couhig has already used his security to stop a sale to anyone else all year, and that was after Dai paid him back. Now he's loaning money to the club again and there's no Olise money incoming to pay him back this time.

If Dai pisses about, the EFL deadline will mean Couhig will simply crack on and use his security to take the club and assets this time.

Isn't it obvious and fairly basic that this big complex deal will include about 1000 clauses.

The top one being something similar to:

"If the ding turn into Barcelona and storm then playoffs, then you need to send me another £50"

So surely no matter what the outcome, it is able to be signed if he wants to.

I think you're right - whoever said it - EFL will ban playoff participation unless the deal is done. Which I like, as it means we can't extend again and go into the playoffs with this still hanging over the club

I'm now at the point of just wanting this to end. Even if it's in absolute heartbreak and misery, at least we know the fate and Dai can be put into the dark books of history alongside Hitler and Raul Moat.

Not really. If Couhig's a half decent lawyer, he will have a contingency for this written into the deal, as will the EFL with respect to our participation in the playoffs if the deal isn't completed.

Seeing a few Carlisle fans wishing us dead on x. I am not sure how it works, but if we get expelled before June would they keep their place in the EFL?

Personally, I’d never want another club to die, but I do kind of get their motive.

Yes, having pulled clear of Morecambe they would get a reprieve, like Bristol Rovers/Burton in L1.

Carlisle were taken over last January after Dai put us up for sale. Shows how long this saga has gone on that they have had time to get relegated twice before we complete a sale

I think the takeover will actually happen this time and Couhig being a lawyer is probably the only person who could get it done.

This has to be seen as positive news.

Whoever the buyer is (assume Couhig), they are funding the club to the end of the process, so no chance of us getting any more points deductions this season.

It is obvious that the EFL have had it with Dai, and so would assume that their statement as to "progress" on the sale being shown hence us being given the extension needs to be taken at face value, though it is equally valid to assume that even if they thought there was no chance of a sale, the May 5th deadline is better for the integrity of the competition than pulling the rug now.

What can be assumed is that the May 5th deadline IS IT; it happens by then (and preferably by May 3rd), or we get kicked out.

Any more Dai sh1thousery - we get kicked out.

It really is as simple as that now; there are no more options, no more possible prevarications by Dai, or him trying to hedge his bets - it happens on or before May 5th, or thats it.

Pure speculation on my part, but I don’t reckon that 5 May is Domesday. I reckon the league could suspend us on 5 May (whether or not we’re in the playoffs), but give us one more deadline to complete (mid/late May) before expelling us (with actually still a few days after that because it would take time to set up an EGM).

Clubs need to make plans for the following season, so it can’t drag on too long, and the league will want to give us every chance but equally not to undermine their disciplinary procedures. This way they follow through on the punishment (immediate suspension), whilst giving one (two?) more chance(s) to get our shit in order before they have to end it.

Yeah, as long as there's progress I think we could see extensions to the end of May. But not into June.

Yep completely agree - this is the end game one way or another.

Interesting the club sought a longer extension too.

Yep - suspension will happen on 5th May regardless of if actually impacts us or not in terms of playing games. If it is close but not quite done, then I would say any FINAL FINAL deadline would be the Friday before the play-off final weekend. If not complete by then, I would expect moves to begin to expel us.

Agreed. Suspension likely, but nothing final until EFL AGM would be my hunch.

Key dates:
EFL extension 5 May
Play-off semis 10 May and 14/15 May
Play-off final 25 May
Last year's EFL AGM was 7 June
Fixtures released 26 June at 12 noon
League 1 (and 2) seasons start 1/2/3 August
Championship season starts 8/9/10 August

Yeah, I guess its important to remember Dai is essentially disqualified – its not really like he can drag it out to see if we get promoted and then opt to keep the club. But I still think there is some possibility of him changing the valuation* if Reading reach or even win the playoffs, and I hope the overshooting of the EFL’s “deadlines” isn’t indicative of Dai stalling to see if he’s selling a Championship club rather than a league 1’er.

Perhaps the current valuation takes the possibility of promotion into consideration.

*It's a good point that Couhig is probably well aware of this possibility and has put the necessary legal protections in place. But does that protect him or us (or both)?
