Birmingham are getting Amazon money for their fairytale exploits too, aren't they?

Dirk Gently
Scutterbucketz I don’t mean this to sound churlish, but League One is vastly different to Championship. I don’t know why the distinction isn’t made every time the points tally’s are mentioned.

Let them have the League One Points record and we’ll keep the Championship one. And I’ll remain completely unbothered until 106 is broken in the Champ.

Plus we all know Brum bought the league

Nail on head. The range of budgets and capabilities of teams is vastly wider in Tier 3 than the Championship, so it'd far easier to just fund a team that will steamroller themselves to the top and potential records. The Championship has far less range, far greater budgets across all the teams, and a far lower "range" of abilities. Plus you'll always be competing against at least 3 teams with PL parachute payments.
whilst agreeing, this very point was raised earlier in the thread…..and was put-down by one or two of our resident ‘experts’…..who correctly* pointed out that it is an EFL record and not a league based one.

Being all about opinions, I’m happy to retain the latter (until such time as 106 is surpassed in the superior league).

For any cricket fans, 2 more wins could make Birmingham finish on Nelson points. Maybe next season won't go so well for them.

Blackpool will be tough for Birmingham and I'm sure they'll want to finish the season well, but the points record can officially be tied or beaten tonight.

BBC reporting that our record is 105, so we’ve got it wrong all these years!

It's been a good run, we held the record for 19 years and it took a borderline Championship side spending 8 figures in League One to beat it.

Was always likely to be beaten when a team spends the sort of money Birmingham have done in what is frankly a pretty poor league.

Well done to them and well done to our team for twice looking like one of the few to actually give them a game in this season.

Congratulations to Birmingham I guess. Pretty big achievement even with their spending.

Whatever the circumstances behind their achievement this year, congratulations to them notwithstanding.

What greater motivation do we need to immediately take it back from them in League 1 next year.

Still think the:

106, 106, Reading FC
106, 106, I say
106, 106, Reading FC
Playing football the Coppell way

is credible and shouldn't be consigned to the chant bin. And particularly on Saturday with the guest of honour.

But, absolutely fair play Birmingham. Lots of teams have tried and frankly not got near it. 111 would absolutely obliterate it.

Indeed. Whatever the spending, football is competitive and getting 100 points is hard. Getting 108 points is even harder, which is why our record stood for so long.

106 will still be an unbeatable record for any club that doesn’t spend zillions and zillions and/or have parachute payments.

I’m just miffed that I only learned last night that 106 was the (shared) global record.* Or is that all bollocks?

* For a pro league.

Its going to get confused with different league sizes etc. Think some United seaons in the 00s would have beaten 106 had they played the extra games. Lincoln basically match us under 2 points a win criteria.

Bit sad, like the Death record, its something I rather liked having about the place.
