Sanguine Arne Slot's assistant Johnny Heitinga leaves the club to become the new Ajax boss - two years after an initial six month spell in charge there. Rumour mill in overdrive as to his replacement - noting that Steven Gerrard isn't going back to Rangers.

FSG appear to be FSG-ing the Wirtz transfer. Liverpool's offer around €100m, Leverkusen want €30m more. Various reporting that this will be worked out and the deal will go through, but Liverpool fans will be forgiven for smelling the Caicedo deal that didn't happen, and wondering if Real's apparent interest will come to anything.

Rumour is that Dirk Kuyt will replace Heitinga.

With their new kit coming out with the line around the chest, I guess it would make sense

Latest rumour is that the deal is close and Leverkusen will be happy to take less money if either Harvey Elliott or Jarell Quansah head in the opposite direction.

Yeah looks like there's a little chess being played at the last minute, Leverkusen understandably want to extract what they can out of this. If Elliott is the price Liverpool should crack on, albeit player may not want to go. Quansah too - but he's a very good player and their best backup at CB.

Some suggestion that the relatively low price Brentford have paid for Kelleher (£18m) reflects Liverpool easing the path for Flekken to join Leverkusen from Brentford.

Would be nice to see Elliot go somewhere like that. He has got something about him, but I am not sure he is ever going to be a regular first XI player at Liverpool.

Jobe Bellingham following a familiar path to his brother - Sunderland 'in advanced talks' to sell him to Dortmund.

Jobe dpesn't have a lot of Jude's obvious class and elite ability, but I wouldn't bet against them playing for England together at some point.

I just don't see it with Jobe tbh. Hope I am proven wrong. and he is still 19 so loads of time to develop. but when I see him I just don't see anything all that special (deffo better than Sunderland's level though)

I know a Sunderland fan at work who I talk to once in a while, and when he was named in the Champ Team Of The Season I mentioned it and this bloke laughed and said he was not even the best midfielder in their team.

lots of rumours of Man Utd going after Bryan Mbuemo. I like that. feels like the kind of signing that would do them good.

Liam Delap to Chelsea seems a done deal. Hmmm, i don't think he's very good.

I have honestly seen so little of him I couldn't judge.

We deffo moved into a weird era some time ago though where clubs are so desperate for the next superstar, and they have so much money to throw around, that just scoring a handful of goals in one season in the top division is enough for someone to throw a lot of money at them just in case it pays off. If it doesn't pay off then there will be another club who are convinced that it is them that will be the ones to unleash the potential and will happily pay big money for their chance to take them

Theo Hernandez reportedly in discussions with a Saudi club. That's a real shame. one of the best left backs in Europe, a regular in the French national team, and at only 27 years old already heading of to retirement in the middle east

Jadon Sancho's career back into limbo. Chelsea declined their 'obligation to buy' for £25m, and instead will pay United £5m to take him back.

Isn't this more that players are playing more football than ever at various semi-competitive levels? - Delap started off at a professional club in 2009 and was at City a good 5 years before moving on. A quick eyeball shows a rapid rise through the England age groups. All transfers are a risk especially in clubs which turnover the managers every couple of seasons or so.

The nearest similar example I can think of is Cole Palmer - a handful of games for City (but no loans), clearly talented and needed to move away.

TLDR - clubs have far, far more information about players than we do.
