Sheffield Wednesday…. Club morals

by linkenholtroyal » 02 Jul 2025 14:49

Sheffield Wednesday currently have players that may jump ship due to contracts not being paid and will be looking for new clubs.
If one of them was suitable and we needed someone in that position would it be morally wrong to pick the bones of another club that are going through the same thing we did for the last few years…..

Yes. The alternative is that the player joins someone else or is unemployed.

I feel awful for Sheffield Wednesday and am glad STAR are offering advice given our recent past, but nothing we do as a club can really influence what happens. Hopefully the dickhead accepts a fair price and ends this sorry chapter. It doesn't currently look likely, but there were many times where I thought Dai would never sell and eventually he did.

It's the nature of the beast that clubs will drive a hard bargain on signings or pick up players who legitimately leave.

I don't blame any of the clubs who got good deals out of us recently because we were over a barrel.

No objection to us offering the right player a contract if they walk out on Wednesday having not been paid.

Wish them well, would contribute to a fundraiser for them.

The days of fundraisers are irrelevant. The sums involved in football are too vast; if your club gets caught in the middle of a dick waving contest between multi millionaires the only thing you can do is campaigning and publicity.

Once they have left the club - then no morals to worry about. I would imagine the owner will miraculously find the money within the next couple of weeks.

I was on the fence just didn’t quite sit right, I think that I would agree we would have to do what is best for our club. To be honest not many I think would be interested or we would want.

Thought Charlie McNeil as a young second choice striker option. But that’s about it.

Perfectly fine for the club to make a move if they thought they could persuade someone at the right price. Once they’ve left Wednesday they’re fair game, of course if the club took several of them then it would be taking the **** a bit.

Think the point is that if the players aren’t paid this month, they can hand in their notice and leave for free.

Already passed that point. Several players have already handed in their notice apparently (well according to the Star anyway). They will become free 15 days after their notice was given so Wednesday could still pull them back if they pay them within that time.

Ah, as I read it, the club have 15 days after receiving a player's notice to make a payment and cancel the notice, so might need to wait a little longer yet.

I'd consider Bailey Cadamarteri, maybe not as a starter but as a decent back up.

England U20 international and had Premier League clubs interested in him last year. Was on loan to Lincoln last season and did ok, 1 in 4 but was curtailed by injury. Sheffield Wednesday tend to play him out wide in a role similar to Kelvin. Got decent pace.

Full disclosure. I know his dad. (Friend of a friend).

However, I'd feel uneasy about picking at the bones of another club in turmoil.

Campaigning and publicity can cost quite a bit of money. Therefore fundraisers remain relevant in that regard.

Yeah, not sure where WYR thinks the money for those billboards came from.

And there's always the ultimate fundraiser for the Phoenix club if it really goes all the way.

Terrible what the owls are going through. If any of their main first team want to drop a league I'd definitely welcome a signing or two. Hopefully they get their owner out soon.
