...I've also been 'up for the Cup' this midweek :

Mon : saw SCR beat divisional rivals Guildford 1-0 at Carshalton's ground in their FA Cup Extra Preliminary Round. replay - was a pretty insipid affair but City had paid the price for letting Rovers pinch a 1-1 in the final secs of stoppage time in the first game on Sat.
Sutton Common Rovers now host CCL-PN Harefield on the 16th - The 'Hares' overcame Peacehaven AET this evening in their replay.

Tue : nipped up to the Northcourt for Ab. Utd 1-2 Aylesbury Vale Dynamos aet (FT 1-1) att: a very healthy 354
- also needed a replay following a 90' plus loads leveller for AVD.
...almost identical pattern tonight - tho' Abingdon Utd led after going down to 10 men on 10' - a needless elbow right in front of the Ref. - maybe a 'hanger-on' from the first tie? :roll:
U's still bossed the game for long periods but AVD pressed wider and higher very late on and yet again managed to draw level - equalizer on 90 + 7. Home sides' misery compounded when AVD scored a 2nd on 120 +2' - they'll now host Oldland Abbotonians (from Brizzle) in the Preliminary Round

...elsewhere our featured sides fortunes in the Cup replays were as follows :
Ashford T bt Eastbourne Town 3-2 (2-2 at FT) visitors scored on 90' - 'Tangerines' down to 10 men from the hour mark
Hilltop beaten 4-1 at Deal
Virginia Water 'lodging' at Arbour Park this season, edged past Thornbury, from the Hellenic 3-2 @ FT

- the Bedfont Sports v Guernsey replay - which might have been my first choice, was p'poned pending an FA decision over Guernsey's admission they fielded an ineligible player. So usual 'fun 'n games' around the CCL - though to be fair Guernsey this term, are in the Southern Combination Premier.
It would appear the Islanders couldn't get on any flights for tonight - so the tie was already in serious doubt. :?
Bedfont Sports not amused as they'd already cancelled a match booking for their lodgers Deportivo (CCL-1) on the understanding the replay would go ahead on Tue evening?

In league action elsewhere
(CCL-PN)
- Burnham grabbed a 1-0 win at British Airways (now playing up at NGU) and moved top with 2 wins from 2
(CCL-PS)
- wins for Alton (2-0 vs Camberley) , Badshot Lea (3-2 vs Cor-Cas) and Cobham: impressive 4-0 romp at Tooting & M.
(CCL-1)
Bedfont 3-0 Wembley
Berks Co 1-0 CWU
Holmer Gn 2-0 Sandhurst Town
Spelthorne 1-1 Molesey

Wed (Tonight) have choice of Cup games at Hayes & Yeading (Southall v Little Common [Bexhill]),
RWBT v Lydney - tho they're in the same division in the Hellenic so slightly less appeal.
Also league games at Beaconsfield (CCL-PN Milton v NGU) & in the Wessex One: Whitchurch v Amesbury

Oh yeah that's another funny one with the Island team! And I wss going to ask you

Why on earth did they get put there?! They are so far away :lol:

Do they pay teams to come visit them?

Southern combination is my local non-league league , living in Burgess Hill
(Of which note I have my first ever season ticket to BH town who hilariously went up in the PO final over a team which got 100+ points in the season :lol: ). They are now step 3 which is a super tough league this year.

Anyway

'zackly ! :mrgreen:

DoubleC Oh yeah that's another funny one with the Island team! And I was going to ask you

Why on earth did they get put there?! They are so far away :lol:

Do they pay teams to come visit them?

...putting them in the SCEL would be about as straightforward as the CCL, re travelling. They must have a deal to fly in/out of Gatwick at a reduced rate too?
....and they DO pay towards flights (and perhaps accommodation where required) for all visiting clubs: as do Jersey Bulls, now in the League above (IL1-South East - the one where BH won the PO)

..... also I thought I'd read, within the rather bewildering 'Re-structuring' thread on NLM, that the powers that be in the FA/Respective Leagues, were reluctant to see Guernsey and Jersey Bulls in the same division. That could be behind why Guernsey DIDN'T drop back down to the CCL for this season. Might have been brokered before Jersey won the POs for the CCL-PS - that outcome was much delayed post-season - ironically in this case, by player administration/ineligibility issues.

Guernsey finished 4th in their first season up at STEP04 promoted in 13/14 after successive promotions. but never hit such heights again and have since struggled in the main.
Both Channel Island clubs 'suffer' rather from unforeseen fixture congestion late season - where various travel/weather issues have caused postponements. Indeed the leagues have sanctioned a kind of 'travelling groundshare', whereby the CI clubs base themselves around Gatwick for a week or more and play remaining fixtures at any available venues on the mainland - I recall even Ascot was 'borrowed' on one occasion?

'Bulls' might go further as they have the backing and a completely re-furbed stadium. Evidently dosh aplenty around BOTH CI clubs.
Guernsey have also just moved into a new Stadium Victoria Park

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
...and "while you're down there" - as it were :lol: - here's the games for this w/e
- I'll be hoping to perform - but probably failing miserably - the 'Cross 'ding dash' to Scours after the early SCL KO
- I usually give up around 15:30 whilst still crawling along Berkeley Ave!
- 'bigger fag-packet' anyone?? :twisted:
- Woodford Utd spent seven seasons up at STEP04 in the late-00s/early-10s - before a catastrophic campaign in 12/13 saw them fail to get a single point from 42 games: GD of over -160 .
- Dropped into the UCL where the following season (13/14) they 'improved' enough to finish with 3 pts from one win! Though there GD was -200 :shock:
