Given the won there 4-0 last season, you could argue the weekend's result is a sign they have gone backwards

3 very well crafted goals from Liverpool last night and for all the huff and puff of Newcastle they only had 3 shots on target.

There were signs of it last season but it is getting clearer that Slot likes the game to be "managed" rather than trying to really press home an advantage when on top.
Under Klopp I think Liverpool would have gone on to score more after the 2nd goal and Ekitike and Wirtz would not have been substituted so early.
In the longer term however Liverpool may do better , particularly in Europe, playing this way.

Last night if Kerkez had been stronger facing Guimares I don't feel as though Newcastle would have got back in the game but the goal gave them a tremendous lift and they might consider themselves unlucky to lose the game in the end.

Anthony Gordon's record over the last 14 games is interesting as stated last night:-
Goals scored 0
Assists 0
Red Cards 2
