3 more signings

by Brogue » 27 Aug 2025 11:11

Nothing revolutionary here but thought I’d do an update . we have 3 more signings in before deadline. Probably nothing new to most as that’s what Noel has already intimated in his post match interview. But from what I’m told that’s how many more. Still not confimred but Ritchie and Ferguson are 2 of the three. And a big man up top is close… don’t know who yet.

Ok don’t quote me on this one but Henk Veerman name has been mentioned…

Veerman would certainly fit the tall experienced striker description.

34 year old - 49 goals for Volendam in the last two seasons (in the Dutch Second Division).

Always possible but would be surprised if he left the Netherlands at his stage of his career and swap playing in the Eredivise (started every game to date since Volendam's promotion) to join an English 3rd Tier side.

Certainly big, he's 2.01 metres which is nearing 6 foot 6 in proper measurements.

Also worth noting that Veerman was born in Volendam - so is playing for his home town club - which makes any move even more unlikely but doesn't mean we aren't trying it.

Almost sounds like a "Couhig trying to flush out the leaks" type of rumour

Was about to say I might have seen Henk Veerman in the flesh as I went to Volendam's Kras Stadion last February. It's a bus ride from Amsterdam. Tidy little ground in a small fishing town, PSV smashed them 5-1. But looking on Wiki, it appears that Veerman moved to ADO Den Haag on loan with an option to buy on 31 July 2023. Which rather scuppers that anecdote.

The big man up front is definitely needed. Ferguson I can get behind, as long as it's a sensible deal financially.

Matt Ritchie is an interesting one. Initially I was up for this, because I didn't rate Camara and Garcia is still very young and adapting to a new position. But credit where it's due, they have both started the season well, so now I'm not sure if Ritchie is a good fit. I know there's apparently a coaching element to this deal, but I think he might be one too many in the playing squad.

If everyone is fit (however unlikely that may be), then we'll be leaving 5 or 5 first team players out of match day squads, not to mention the ones on the fringes. I'm sure we'll try to get some youngsters out on loan, but we'll have a big squad as it is.

Option wasn’t taken after end of 23/24 so he’s still with Volendam.

Can’t see it happening without Stam being manager

Agree it’s a just name drop to flush Brogue out :?

Thanks Brogue! You’ve been spot on with so many signings this season. I have even enjoyed the speculation of the ones that haven’t come to fruition yet.

I reckon that Cheek lad at Bromley would be a smart, low cost option. Scores bucket loads, experienced and presumably hard as nails after so long slugging it out against non league beefcake CBs. Some players hit their peak in their 30s. Get him on a 2 year deal and he'll be just shy of his 35th birthday at the end of it - not too old at all for a player who doesn't rely upon pace.

I wouldn’t be against Cheek, but the Dutch player mentioned above by Brogue sounds ideal. Samson Tovide at Colchester would be a good investment, but he’d probably cost too much for us.
