Winston Biscuit
6ft Kerplunk Is Elliott technically just on loan this season so won't be able to play if he hadn't already been dropped recently?

Correct. Loanees cant play against parent clubs.

Thought it was a perm move but checking Wiki I see it isn’t - yet:
On 1 September 2025, Elliott signed for fellow Premier League club Aston Villa on an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy. It was reported that the agreed permanent transfer would cost £35 million, including sell-on and buy-back clauses

Perhaps Liverpool should have kept Elliott and sent Wirtz to Villa.

Come on m8, it's far too early to say that £120M Wirtz has been a flop

The big price tag leads to high expectations. If you paid £40M for Harry Maguire, for instance, it would have been a good deal

Obviously, he'll bag a hat-trick and Maguire will have a mare (if he plays). May as well get my LOLs in now!

Wolves set to hire Gary O'Neil as their new boss, 11 months after sacking him. :D

I know we all LOLZ about it being a "Merry-go-Round" as the thread title suggests - but it really has become an utter joke in the last few years. Nuno, Postecoglu, Potter, O'Neill, Dyche etc. "The next / last bloke will be better..."

Yup - but for how long? 6 months? 2 months? These owners must love paying managers off.

The Sheffield United approach to management hiring.

At least Peterborough normally left it a little while longer before switching between Ferguson & McCann.

O'Neil has walked away from talks now apparently.

Interesting that Edwards wants to go to Wolves. I think their squad is shocking, he'll lose most games and almost certainly get relegated, and that Middlesbrough have a better chance of being in the PL next season.

But I guess the immediate lure of the PL is strong, and if he somehow keeps them up it's a remarkable achievement on the big stage. But it could go the way of Paul Jewell, who never really recovered from his Derby spell.

Edwards has close links with Wolves and maybe it is his dream job and if it comes up he may regret not ever having taken the opportunity as it may not come around again.

Maybe the owners now realise that you can't sell players like Cunha (and previously Neto ,Neves and Nunes) and and not adequately replace them so Edwards could be part of a longer term plan for the club with a greater budget than applied for the previous manager of Wolves and a greater budget than at 'Boro.

Even given the emotional pull he has for Wolves its an odd move for Edwards, Felt like Middlesbrough was a chance for him to reverse the downward trend his managerial career was taking. He was doing a good job and on track for getting into the playoff which would be seen as a successful season for them. To jump ship so soon and to a club that looks destined for relegation doesn't seem to me to be the best move. Ok, in the unlikely event he keeps them up he'll be a hero but fail to build on that and he'll be gone by this time next year. If they go down and they don't start next season on fire he'll be gone by this time next year. Who in the championship will look at him at that point and offer him a job knowing that he'll walk as soon as a slightly better offer comes in.

Like most football fans you have looked at this in terms of football but, as well as the pull of Wolves for personal reasons, I guess a contract for nearly 3 years is a significantly higher amount of earnings than he has been on at 'Boro and money does talk, especially in the Premier League.

Deal done. Rob and his assistant are now confirmed as the new Wolves management team until 2028 (or next summer).

Middlesbrough get £3m in compensation.
