John Smith Nottingham Forest 3-4 Reading - 9th April 2011

End to end, the lead chopping and changing, then Si Church with an injury time winner. Sunny day on the river too.

Whatever happened to Forest?

Leicester 1 Reading 1

The game that actually clinched our promotion to the top division. Not that special a game, but the atmosphere, the significance, just the most awesome memory. You could feel the stand moving as everybody bounced together at the end. Still makes me shiver today!

Leicester away and Robin Friday v Tranmere already mentioned, those are my favourites. Damn, Forest away 4-3 also already mentioned. Went to all three.

Thinks

Cambridge away, 2-2 to get promoted, same season as Friday/ Tranmere. My favourite season ever. Started with phantom goal v Rochdale.

AthleticoSpizz
Snowball My history only starts at 2006 but I think my favourite game was Liverpool 1-2 in the FA cup replay: brilliant Gunnarson? nutmeg, then cross for Shane to score the winner.

What was the game where McAnuff dribbled the length of the pitch but didn't score?
the same game iirc

yup, one of those moments

loved that game, everything about it was great fun. IIRC, only decided to go at last minute with rabidbee providing the wheels.

3-2 vs Boro
6-0 vs West Ham

Highlights of our greatest ever season

3-1 vs Liverpool, obviously a bit of a downer as it's the relegation season but still fondly remember the crowd basically ushering Harper into the goal for the third.

1-2 vs Arsenal just for the equaliser, maddest celebrations I've been involved in.

4-3 vs Forest, already mentioned but crazy game, hugely enjoyable.

3-2 vs Wigan, game was mad and basically sealed our safety with a great turnaround as far as I remember.

yup yup yup

great days, so very glad I went.

Another one where I decided to go at the very last minute.

Feels that there's not much left - would love another promotion, would love a cup final win, European away day the holy grail.

The way UEFA keep inventing competitions and extra safety nets and places for the failures, a European sojourn might not be too much longer away.

What a time that was. Southampton away was absolute bedlam, when ALF scored our second I went flying about five rows forward.

Special mention for the 3-0 at Cardiff in the play-offs too. We weathered the storm pretty well first 45 then in the second half we were absolutely superb, all topped off with Jobi emphatically smashing one in to seal it.

Another random favourite of mine is Walsall away in 2002, when Andy Hughes scored a couple of late goals to win it 2-0 for us. I remember really hating them after the play-off final, and we went up there early on in the season when we were just finding our feet a bit. I recall we were really good, playing nice stuff and just generally looking like a decent team while Walsall looked like imposters in the division. It was such sweet revenge to realise we were on the up and they were very much not.

The best bit was walking out at the end when a Walsall fan had a go at me and my brother (clearly aged 11 and 13 and wearing replica shirts) and for the only time ever I heard my dad call someone a c*nt

Scummers away was superb. Both on and off the pitch. Fair few of the lads turned up for that one. Me and bruv stayed down there for the weekend and yours truly bagged the winner of the GN on the Saturday. What's not to love?

Before that there was a game against Millwall in early March at The Den where we won 2-0 and on the way back through the tube the fans were singing "West Ham Southampton we're coming for you." I'll never forget that due to the games that followed.

Side note:
Millwall had a much hyped striker on loan from Tottenham playing for them that day. Didn't think much of him in that game and felt like he was a bit overhyped. Wonder what happened to him...

That Millwall game was great too. I was hanging about in Lewisham after the game and ended up chatting to a home fan, who was absolutely full of praise for us and annoyed that they had allowed Jason Roberts to wind them up so much.

EDIT: Yeah that young lad they had on loan, didn't look like he was going to score. I wonder what his goals to games ratio has ended up being throughout his career.
