Speculation - Kamari Doyle

by Sutekh » 06 May 2026 17:43

The Chronicle reporting there seems to be a lot of appreciation on both sides on the possibility of Kamari returning….

https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/spor ... eading-fc/

The Reading Chronicle wrote:Brighton and Hove Albion's Kamari Doyle would 'love to come back' for another season at Reading FC.

After 46 appearances across all competitions, four goals and seven assists Kamari's season-long loan with Reading came to an end.

The attacking midfielder has come leaps and bounds since the start of the season, with his development under Leam Richardson and the coaching staff clear to see.

Kamari Doyle was brought to the club in the summer under the stewardship of Noel Hunt - where he made 17 appearances, scored one goal and registered two assists. Under Leam Richardson the attacking midfielder made 29 appearances, scored three goals and registered five assists, with Kamari playing in various different roles, from winger, wide midfielder and a traditional number ten.

When Richardson was asked if the opportunity arose to bring Doyle back to the club for another season, he said: "You always want to work with good players, I think this short period that we've had working with him he'll be better for it because ultimately he could come back and hit the ground running with a lot of information, put in a lot of games, a lot more experience, going to certain grounds for the first time, these young players playing against players for the first time but I thought he was excelling in it, I thought he was really improving rapidly as a young footballer.

"So yeah, I think if the opportunity came we'd welcome him back and hopefully it'd be the same."

After the last game of the season on Saturday against Blackpool, Leam Richardson told The Reading Chronicle that Kamari would 'love the possibility to come back' after his successful spell at RG2.

He said: "I've just left Kamari in the office there. In the previous interview when I came in he said he was at a four in his confidence and his words there, he's left as a nine.

"He'd love to possibly come back if it's possible, obviously it's his own career and he'll have advisers etc."

Speaking ahead of his return to Sussex, the attacking midfielder said: "I’ve really enjoyed my time at Reading. I feel I have developed massively on and off the pitch since the first part of the season.

"I’ve learnt some really valuable things that will hopefully help me on going throughout my career.

"I’d like to thank Leam for trusting in me and helping me feel more and more confident as the season progressed, as well as all my teammates and the staff for making me feel at home.

"Finally, I’d like to thank the supporters for trusting in me and creating an atmosphere that was so enjoyable to play my football in. I’ve loved representing such a big club and will always remember my time here fondly."

"Would love to come back" - Richardson's words, not Doyle's, so wouldn't get too excited.

I think he has another year, but could be wrong.

Brighton won't be announcing their retained list for a few weeks, so we'll probably find out if he's available as a free agent then.

According to Transfermarkt:
Kamari Doyle (20) is under contract with Brighton & Hove Albion until May 31, 2026, having moved from Southampton in January 2024. He is currently on a season-long loan at Reading for the 2025/26 season and is a highly-rated attacking midfielder.

Happily have him back
Thoughts back to pre-chrimbo when some of our discerning posters here were bleating “why is Doyle even on the pitch”, “what does Doyle even bring to the game?

That’s football, like management, it’s changeable and there’s always scope for improvement.

Is that from an AI model? 31 May would be the latest date his loan at Reading would officially expire. If his contract at Brighton expires this summer, it would be on 30 June.

Going on the TransferMarkt website shows:

Code: Select all

Current club: Reading FC
Joined: 04/08/2025
Contract expires: 31/05/2026
On loan from: Brighton & Hove Albion U21
Contract there expires: -

Doyle really shone when played in the middle. Could get caught on the ball sometimes when isolated, but I think if our CDMs did their job and moved out of their own third rather than either leaving a chasm behind Doyle or dragging him too deep, this would happen less.

Showed a lot of flair and promise, Would love to have him back.

This in spades. The midfield's movement is absolutely woeful. We usually have 6 players in a line and then the rest in a line up front not getting the ball with a third of the pitch empty.

I agree, we need to rebuild the Centre of the park to allow us to then be more progressive....

Hang on, am I in the forum?.... :D

Missing Knibbs leading the press, which would naturally move Savage and co higher. Doyle wasn't a pressing machine like Knibbs was.

Whilst I didn't hate Doyle, he was a significant downgrade on Harvey, and I'm not as enthused about a return as others seemingly are.

Fully agree on Knibbs. He was a huge miss that Doyle didn’t fill

I liked Doyle by the end of the year and he had a good couple of months - but he was pretty poor before Xmas tbh and was quite a letdown after a very good season on loan before. Could see he had talent but was soft and not producing the assists and goals

He did improve a fair bit though and would be happy if he came back

This thread is dangerously close to painting Richardson in a good light. Remember, he isn't Hunty so we must hate him. Thanks.
