We went sorta 4-5-1 after Owen limped off, then he came on and played behind Crouch, literally shrugging as he came onto the pitch.

Missing the next game, he played centre midfield vs Sweden to some effect. IIRC, he played right back vs Ecuador. Again, shrugs.

We went 4-5-1 with him alongside Lampard and Gerrard and he was arguably our best player, only player to score a penalty.

Leicester really will be the team to beat. They’ve managed to shift a lot of the squad from last season with Jannik Vestergaard, Harry Winks, Patson Daka and Jordan Ayew all out the door with Ben Nelson also rumoured to be about to depart for West Ham. In addition they’re likely to net about £40m (after addons have worked through) from the transfers of Jeremy Monga and Abdul Fatawu to ManC and Ipswich. Add to that a lot of decent Academy products and it’s clear that finishing above them should mean automatic promotion. Some rumours suggest they’re also considering a move to re-sign Jamie Vard now he’s a free agent at only 39.

In other news Plymouth have sold Laurent Tolaj to Brizzle City for an undisclosed fee that must be a good million or two.
