I wonder how good a player Rooney would be today if he had the same attitude towards life as Ole Gunnar Solskjær or Jan Åge Fjørtoft.

Every week football at the highest level gets a little less appealing.

Mind you, with Windsor & Eton struggling to come through financial crisis there's not a lot to enthuse about the integrity at any level of the game.

And as the economic woes are set to continue for a number of years I'm curious as to whether supporters will rebel against the seemingly never ending supply of dosh being handed to the top "stars" or will it just be seen as a bit of fantasy that is outside of the real world? It's just as likely that this is a way of takling the heat OFF the Glazers (note the spelling, please) by showing the fans that they are serious about remaining as contenders, having talked Rooney into believing they will be challenging again.

None of them come out of it with any real credit - particularly if Rooney now sees out his £65m contract with no silverware. That'll prove he's stayed for the medals ...... oh !!

Rooney isn't world class, he's Premiership class. He's done absolutely nothing on the international stage to prove otherwise.

That's a bit wide of the mark. Npt only is the Premiership at least the equal of most International football but he's also proven himself in the Champions League which is the next level up.

He has performed on the international stage as well, his injuries being key turning points for England previously. They were turning points because he'd proved himself to be good enough to win games at International level.

The problem for the Premier League and their "product" is that all but two of those players play for the big two in Spain and sooner or later Fabregas will join them.

Seem to go through this argument about 'world class' on here every 12 months or so. My definition would be whether the player in question would make it into a World XI. Therefore, reluctantly in the first example, Ashley Cole would be considered a world class left back, Ronaldo a world class winger/forward, David Villa a world class striker, and so on.

The scientists say that after going on a drinking binge you take two to three months regain your maximum level of o2 capacity if you are a professional athlete in an endurance sport.

The main one with alcohol I thought was in recovery times. Your body takes longer to repair the little injuries and then playing or training on the twinges makes them worse in turn.

I see World Class as being one of the best half dozen or so players of your type in the world. It's all pretty subjective anyway.

The problem we have over here, and I'm sure elsewhere is the same too, is that if anyone has a couple of good games they get called World Class.

Back to Rooney though, what's the general consensus in the media on how much last weeks little show earned him in a pay rise? I've heard reports that he's now on anything from 160-200k+ a week.
