is it me or does anyone else think we if had money to spend, then why not keep Federici, karacan, pearce, yes karacan probably didnt deserve a decent contract but it seemed we had no money hence why they've left and lets be honest McShane and Quinn won't be on cheap contracts they'd be either level or more than Federici you would think....

The team needed to be refreshed, and the overall players contracts adjusted, I think McShane is better than Pearce, Quinn is better than Karacan, Sa is a goalscorer more than Mackie is, the changes should see a more hungry squad that are better to watch than last seasons squad that seemed tired and going through the motions, showing the potential only for FA Cup matches.

The process had been going on in the background, the Reading way is to try and keep things under wraps until a player is signed. some people failed to recognise that the new owners did make investment when they took over at the start of last season with Norwood, Cox signings, Mackie and Murray on loan, January was limited to just ensuring RFC had players to keep the team up and to leave more room for changes this summer.

They said yesterday clubs in the Championship don't make enough money, and if we don't make money they'd have to sell later, so they're focus is clearly to get us back into the Prem and expand the brand abroad to increase revenue streams. It sounds like their intentions are good, but just how patient will they be?

This is where it gets interesting. If they plan on developing the Stadium grounds, this is at least 3 years away from completion - probably closer to 5. So, if that's the case, this is a medium term project. The key thing is how much do they spend in the interim on sustaining the team with the gamble on promotion. In the back of my mind, I am wondering if the plan is to spend as little as required with the hope of getting promoted, and use some of the riches for the development.

I don't think they'll be as blatant as taking it all - far from it. They could continue to invest in the team by adding loan debt from their own pockets and use the liquidity of the parachute payments for the development. They are pretty astute people, they'll already know what the plan is. What we don't know is just how interested they are in the football side of things long term.

Considering when they signed their previous contracts, the three we've let go were probably on a lot more than those we've just brought in.

Add in the need for Clarke to shake things up and it makes a reasonable amount of sense to have handle things the way they have done.
