I bought a seat in the Upr West on my member card this week.

Incidentally, here is a little tale about season tickets and the ticket office.

(A friend has a membership card but because of previous work commitments - and cos they lived away from Reading - hadn't been able to get to many games....they were interested in getting an STH and not just for the big games......)

Back in Movers Week I was informed that there were no more seats available in the Upr West, so informed my friend. Then I was asked to check if there was a seat available in the Upr West for Saturday by a third party and discovered that the seat next to mine was, in fact, available.

I immediately bought it (using my existing card).

I then asked if that meant the seat was available for purchase as an ST; I was told yes.

Filled in the form and returned next day......to have the following conversation with the ticket office.

"Hi - I'd like to put this application in for Seat XXX in the Upr West please".

"Sorry, all ST applications have been processed and we aren't accepting any more"

"Pardon? I was told I could apply for this seat yesterday"

(Disbelievingly) "Really? And who told you that then?"

"The lad sat to your immediate left; indeed, I bought that seat for Saturday"

"Er..................(to colleague - "did you sell him that seat for saturday? Oh ok then") fine, but the seat may be being processed as a ST seat; and I'm not prepared to find out for you if it is".

"So if that seat ISN'T sold as an ST, you wouldn't be prepared to sell it to someone willing to pay £595 for it?"

"No. By law we have to keep some a % of seats as non ST seats"

"A single seat in one block??"

"Thats right"

"Ok. So I could buy that seat for every home game then?"

"Er......not necessarily"

"Why not?"

"Because the club may reserve the seat for staff"

"Sorry. You are saying that the club would turn down a paying member of the public and give the seat to a member of staff??"

"Yes"

"Under what se of circumstances would that actually happen?"

"I'm not prepared to tell you"

"Pardon?"

"I know under what set of circumstances, but I'm not going to tell you"

"Thats ridiculous; so the bottom line is that I'm not allowed to even apply for this seat for a friend with a membership card?"

"Thats correct"


"Thank you for wasting my time"

And with that I left.

I have never heard anything more stupid than this; is there a logical explanation???

I'm going to see if I can buy it before every home game and see if its available.

But what REALLY annoys me is their arrogance!

I chased my AST tickets for Villa and Wigan on Weds, was told somebody would call me today.
Did they bollocks.
I rang them today and got another fob off that somebody would sort it tomorrow.
I'm not amused + its cost me about 50 mins of ringing the 0870 number to get nowhere .oxf*rd

... unless people sold their seats back under the buy-back scheme.

Have I missed something, when did the club actually launch the buy-back scheme or is the TO making things up again (I thought it was still a proposal).

E-mailed the club regarding the Buy Back scheme and got the following repliy;

Sorry, Mr A, but I really don't know why you waste your time giving these people a hard time. Season ticket sales ended some time back with the maximum 18,000 having been sold so clearly they were not going to sell you one now. As for the seat next to you, you know they only release tickets one or two games at a time so they're not going to let you block book the seat.

I'm not defending the ticket office, although I've never had any complaint that hasn't been dealt with satisfactorily, but I do feel sometimes that we make quite unreasonable demands of them and then are shocked when we are refused.

Per chance would this spare seat be in the approximate area of the South Stand corner? The reason I ask is that players family & friends tickets end up over there. I was sat next to Lee Camps best mate at the Derby game, which proved rather entertaining. This might answer your question as to why seats are not sold, they dish them out ot players
