I'm struggling a lot with money this season. I made a budget recently, of my income and expenditures, and although I have money left over after, bills, rent, petrol, etc.... it's not enough.

I'm not renewing my AST next year, as the cost is j ust too much for me to afford. But I was looking at how much extra money I would have if I didn't have a home season ticket.

Apart from having more time on my hands, and more money, I could go to the odd game if I wanted.

I could imagine the ticket prices increasing. Followed by a statement expressing the "exciting times" and "huge ambition the club are attempting to follow". Maybe a rise from £545 to £595 for the east stand?

No what you mean. Will probably renew my ST next year. But i havent seen a game since Man City away, simply cant afford it. Will be at the Pompey game though. They need to cut prices, or lose fans.



I'm not decided about my season ticket yet, but will probably wait for ST prices to be released.

Simple solution = flat rate for all, bar concessions.

Discount for early renewal and/or price freeze.

Looks like it's frozen if you take up the early bird option - so my ST will once again be £570 (early bird) or £630 after.

I'm lucky as I can afford this, but so many fellow fans are already claiming this is a season too far to be ripped off for football in a stadium that has so few 'facilities'. Most Pompey fans love Fratton Park and are not bothered about modern 'facilities' but they do know when they are being priced out of the game.

The real gripe seems to be the pricing for kids - in the North Lower where I sit, it's £335 for a kids ST - so that's just over £900 for a dad and his son - considering the average wage in the city is between £15,000 - £20,000 that's a tall order for most.

Also the club has announced the details today 3rd March, and wants deposits (£275 adult £150 kids) by 30th March - that means for someone like me who gets paid on the last day of the month, they'll have to find that money before the next payday.

As I said, I'm lucky - I can afford it and will renew again for the 18th season but I do think the club are taking liberties when they blame the small capacity as a reason for our high prices. Therefore the fans are being penalised for the shabby way the club was run for years.

I expect ST sales to drop drastically as people vote with their feet... watch this space...

There's a good sign in that Mr Mad's great friend in football, David Gold, has spoken out in favour of the move to reduce ticket prices:

"Birmingham City chairman David Gold is "encouraged" by the number of clubs revealing they will reduce ticket prices for hard-pressed fans.

Blues are offering special packages for season ticket holders for Sunday's promotion clash with rivals Cardiff.

Gold told BBC Sport: "We have got to listen to our supporters and they are saying it is getting too expensive.

"I am encouraged by the number of clubs that are already reporting that they are going to reduce prices." "

Hopefully Mr Mad will listen and take his views on board.

Apart from the beloved Reading I bet. I love this club, I really do, and I respect Pompey for all they have done. But the continued increase at their club, possibly ours? Truely out of order.

Blackburn decreasing 25% is a step in the right direction, although most clubs aren't in the same position (a not-so-great attendance most weeks) I think they could quite easily still work on exactly the same income as Blackburn. 30 - 40 million.

I know, and have admitted that football is not much of a sport to most people anymore, it's a business. This taken into account, and around £20 million (tops for most teams) for every club in this league (I'm not looking at facts - i'm looking at £8 million for Readings' player wages this season) is not at all much now. £35 million for TV rights subtract wages of £20 million, is £15 million the last time I checked. Wigan spent £8 million (was it?) to put up a decent fight in their first season, us? £6 million so far, probably tops, Sheffield and free spending Warnock not over £10, it's becoming clear that staying up doesn't need near £15 million.

I would definately support this FSF campaign, and what STAR is trying to achieve. The sentence which summed up what you want STAR Campaigns is a breathe of fresh air, which we need. If it's 'easy' to get the club to freeze ticket prices though, will you try and get decreases? It may seem not a viable option with certain things happening in and around the club, but with every reason suggested here, it becomes an option to try, at least. Surely?

PS. Was it home ST that almost ran out, but not quite last season? Or AST? Or just me being stupid again?

No way I can justify paying that, then the petrol from Leeds each week. It's bad enough I try and make most away games as well.

Sadly that would rule me out of most games next season if they did this!

The price of ST's at the Mad Stad is all about supply and demand, unlike at Blackburn, where the area has a surfeit of other Premier League teams for a choice.

Our stadium currently holds 24,200 which is at the lower end of capacities in the Prem; we have more people wanting season tickets than are available - so why should any business drop the price of a product that is over-subscribed?

At best there will be a price freeze; those whoi think there will be a reduction are going to be disappointed.

And I, like many others, won't be taking the AST next season.

Good point on the AST Mr A, if there is a rise we might take less to away games, if I had the choice of finding an extra £70 say for a renewal it would be away games that took the hit, not an ST

A lot of people missed out on the big league games this season so they would still be over subscribed. I certainly would not expect to see anything like the AST take up of this season, games at Boro and Wigan attendance wise would drop quite considerably.
