That's harsh, but people do forget some of the dire stuff they've been through in the past. For me, nothing could be worse than the second half of the relegation season under Bullivant and Burns. The supporters were just turning up to Elm Park for the sake of it and standing in abject moroseness. The current team has some better players than Bullivant and Burns had: it's just a matter of adopting better tactics and, who knows, management techniques. As for Madejski, he had no more clue in Bullivant's day than he has now, which is why he acted too late then and splurged money in a futile last-minute attempt to stay up.

I won't even talk of some of the grimmer days in the fourth division, when supporting Reading was a form of masochism.

Well, well, football is expensive entertainment. I demand to be entertained as i have paid X amount of cash towards investing in this clubs future. I cannot wait to get through this lull so i can see the highs. Blah blah.

The club went for it, it almost damaged the club financially,and bank rolling stopped with the financial downturn. I'd rather see a struggling RFC than no RFC at all.

But is the choice really only between a struggling RFC and no RFC at all, royalexile? We could have a successful-ish side in this league, as we've had before under McGhee, Quinn and co, Pardew, and Coppell. I don't see why the choice can't be between that and a promotion side. We are one up from the Crewes, Rotherhams, and, who knows, Scunthorpes and Peterboroughs, for whom Championship status counts as giddly heights, unlikely to be sustainable.

Yes, but in THIS division McGhee and Pardew had us in a high position, which shows we do not have to accept mediocrity as our lot, as royalexile seemed to suggest. Lets not fall into the negativity of starting to believe that we are lucky to be at this level. This has been our rightful level now for many seasons. If we throw it away it won't be because it was inevitable. Far from it: everyone is surprised we are down here below the likes of Scunthorpe, Barnsley and Blackpool.

Fact : Whenever someone feels the need to tell you how long they have been a supporter as if to back up what they're posting then every single time what they're posting is utter bollocks.

When a supporter of 20/25/30 odd years standing is moved to write about their current feelings on hwo the club is run, I would suggest that the fact they have been watching for the club for all those years actually gives a bit of credance to their views. They have, after all, ben along for the ride for a considerableperiod of time, investing a considerable amount of time, money and emotion in the club.

I would certainly spend more time listening to their views than some of cr@p spouted by the spooty faced plastics who have jumped on board since we got into the 2nd tier, never mind the PL.

You should buy a season ticket if it suits you. Whether that is for financial reasons, convenience or wanting to 'belong' in some way.

It has nothing to do with whether SJM continues to back the club really.

To not buy a ST as some kind of protest seems a bit odd, especially if you actually intend to go to all the games anyway.

And so totally true what you say about previous years - I've seen us in the 4th division and I've seen us play absolute pants - but back in those days we had no expectations really - I don't even remember coming away from losing a game and being so despondent as I have felt all this season - that's because we would have laughed at anyone who said we'd see us in the top flight of English football in our lifetime! That's how far we have come in just the 28 years I've been supporting RFC - the only person who has rammed down our throats what we have come to expect from the club is JM himself - "premiership football" "we won't be next" "shows our ambition to get back into the Premier league" blah blah blah. Whilst, simultaneously appearing to spend all the extra revenue on player's wages, then selling those players off, then getting in some bargain basement replacements, all the time thinking us mugs won't realise and we'll be blinded by the rhetoric he spouts.

because 1) you don't pay all the money up front and 2) if things are a bit pants, you don't feel you ought to go to the game because you've already paid for your seat - you can pick and choose if necessary at no cost to yourself, but a greater cost to the club.

And when attendances fall the club takes note. wheras they do not seem to take note of the fall in ST holders, perhaps they thingk they will make it up on match tickets, which of course they will if we are doing well

But people forget quite what they went through in the past, Royal Lady. I don't know if you have had children, but it's said that women forget the pain of childbirth because if they remembered it, they'd never have another child. It's the same with going to football: the agonies of the past fade. All I know is that watching grotesquely poor football at Elm Park in the season we were below half way in the fourth division was almost unbearable. Even though that memory has faded to unreality, I'd take the present situation any day.

The more football costs the fans the more they expect, seems fair enough really.

i would expect MAn u to charge the highest prices as they deliver what they say, for us, well £15 a game would be about right, £10 at a league 1, £8 at league 2 and £5/6 at non league.
