Interesting comments from Roy Keane today about some of the Man Utd "greats".
I like the line about Giggs having a great career (longevity) but that doesn't make him a great player.
A bit bitchy (but funny) as he clearly didn't rate Scholes and Neville as highly as a lot of other people have and he said that we shouldn't always believe that Fergie told the truth.

Great stuff-I have grown to like him......no,I'll retract that with "I don't detest him so much".

Depends on the definition of a great player compared to Roy Keane.

If longevity and success are anything to go by, then Roy was just a "bit part player" in comparison to his prey subjects.

Bad points - One of the dirtiest players of the Prem era. Crap manager.
Good Points - Massive will to win. Decent pundit because he is quite honest. Hates Fergie.

Seems to me that if you fell out with fergie you get the Keane seal of approval. He's certainly entertainingly psychotic.

I like his brutal honesty for entertainments sake but can imagine that after only 10 seconds in his company you would be left thinking he was just a massive helmet

he has the attitude and personality that only works with fame & celebrity. Just imagine someone talking and behaving in that way while they served you on the checkout in your local Budgens.

King of Sting Bad points Crap manager.

he only managed 2 teams and one of them he took over 4 games into the Championship season of which they lost all 4 and ended up winning the league with them. then kept them in the PL the following season which is most clubs aim when they get up there.

Not claiming he is a great manager but when this ^ is one of only 2 managerial records you are surely not that close to 'crap' category.

Not sure how anyone can not 'rate' Scholes. When the man widely recognised as being one of the top two players currently in the world says Scholes is the best player he's ever seen, surely thats enough of a seal of approval?

King of Sting But if United do not go on a good little run then lose lose.

But you were claiming that it was all about their chances of winning it ... "no chance of winning" were the words.

Schards has made the bet because he thinks they'll be priced much more tightly at some point in the season than the odds he got.

hope Schards wins his bet

a. cos I like him (despite everything), and

b. because the realistic alternatives (Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool) are too awful to contempl8. Man City meh.

He took 12/1. They are now 33/1. Bad bet.

Since when were United ever 12/1 to win the league? Was a decent bet at the time.

Do you think they started the season as champions but with longer odds than 12/1 ?
And they won't have gone straight from short odds to 33/1 - unless the UK bookies are part of the match fixing scandal (actually, that's not beyond the realms of possibility)

Just to put King of Sting's mind at rest, I like a gamble and over a year will bet a few thousand on a whole varierty of sporting bets, some will win, most will lose and I'll probably end up about even. If they all won, it wouldn't change my life and if they all lost it wouldn't kill me, it's just a bit of fun and gives me an interest.

Clearly, in a perfect world, it's better to have bet on something at 33/1 as opposed to 12/1 but we don't all have a crystal ball.

The change from 12 to 33 was over last weekend when United lost one point to Arsenal and City and none to Chelsea. If you feel, as I do, that the winner will come from these four, that seem a huge overreaction and I still feel 33/1 is an excellent price.

Just to make it clear K-O-S you don't back something at 33/1, or even 12/1 expecting to win, you just think it's overpriced and, therefore, value. As others have stated, with Betfair, if they find some form and the odds do go down, I'd have the option of trading out at a profit too.

Love Keane. Disagree with him on lots of things but he was a great leader.

^Speaking of, did anyone else see the Keane/Viera documentary on ITV4 last night?

Not a massive fan of either of them, but it was brilliant television.

Yes I know all of that but....
You started talking about backing them when they were 8/1. I gave my opinion that it would be throwing your money away. They have lost the next two games and are now 33/1. You backing them at 12/1 looks a bad decision in hindsight. I very much doubt they will be shorter than that again this season. We shall see.
