Didn’t call Southgate’s football boring, just pragmatic. To call football under LR boring would be jazzing it up!Extended-Phenotype wrote: ↑18 Jun 2026 21:49 Not sure id call the football under Southgate boring. Even when we were poor, we had some dramatic turnarounds.
yes, he was more cautious. Probably right to be so in the early years, and maybe as our quality grew his system didn’t quite grow with it.
But lets not forget, easy as it seems to be these days with everyone having social-media driven ADHD, that Southgate’s tenure was the most successful in our history.
Yeah, a wealth of lower/non league experience. I know its not the be all and end all but the managerial and players signings all feel like they're for League 1 at best rather than looking ahead and thinking they're got potential to step up to the Championship.
The Cube wrote: ↑03 Jul 2026 13:47 I saw John Coleman play many times. He scored lots and lots of goals, and had a really ruthless streak. There's no way he would settle for the atrocious attacking performances we saw at the end of last season.
Obviously the important question for any assistant manager is whether he is capable of stepping up as caretaker when there's a vacancy (say mid-September).
Yes, I get the same feeling, as with some of last season's signings such as O'Connor, Lane and Roberts.6ft Kerplunk wrote: ↑03 Jul 2026 14:34Yeah, a wealth of lower/non league experience. Could well be and recent reports suggest that he has experience pouring out of himSouth Coast Royal wrote: ↑03 Jul 2026 15:15Yes, I get the same feeling, as with some of last season's signings such as O'Connor, Lane and Roberts.6ft Kerplunk wrote: ↑03 Jul 2026 14:34Yeah, a wealth of lower/non league experience. Coleman is obviously a big mate of Richardson's and IIRC Accrington were always described as a good footballing side during his tenure.
Am not sure how he will settle into the job as assistant having been his own man for many years but maybe he will be regarded as joint manager by his buddy.
