That's SCHARDS. I'm RL. Skyline quite clearly stated that Schards AND RL drag up threads after months. I'm asking him to prove it. He can't of course, because I don't and haven't dragged a thread up. Still, nothing like getting facts in the way of an argument eh?

This thread veered well away from the original post though, i sat and read a few of the pages at the beginning, makes for interesting reading as it was so long ago now.

Also interesting for a bit after the announcement, and around the time we looked like going down, and after we indeed had.

One good thing is that it all stays in one place, not new threads every time someone has a thought, the expansion will be debated until we are in freefall, or until the building happens.

What we need really is a further 4/5 wins fast, so they can make a decision on the close season in 2009.

even if we get promoted this season I don't see any expansion happening

it will not happen until we are an established premier league club. 3 out of 4 seasons is not "established"

to be honest I believe the only reason we have the planning approval is to make the club more attractive to potential buyers

I get your point weybridge, but so far JM has had no luck moving the club on to a new owner, we really dont know the reasons for this.

We were in the Prem with planning and no one bought the club, I would say JM might be better extending the east, remaining the owner, but perhaps put someone new in as Chairman, paid, if that is allowed, and moving to president or something, with 3kk capacity perhaps a potential owner would se us as a serious proposition.

If I only had money as an interest in football I would buy Coventry or Leicester ahead of little old RFC, currently we are 38th in ground size I believe, some way down from a big club, doing well but then so are many others of a similar size.

I'll weigh in all I like when someone keeps perpetuating the myth that a) I agree 100% with this thread (which isn't mine) and b) that I keep dragging it back up.

i agree fully with the origin of this thread, that away support was less for Man U in the second season, and was on telly too, in August, and bloody expensive.

If he has the planning permission, why should he spend the money to actually build the extension when we don't really need it at the moment?

want to make more money when you sell your house but don't want to spend too much? Then get planning permission for an extension/conservatory but don't actually build it!

Its the same with a football club. The planning permission has a value.

OK so JM hasn't sold, I believe the planning permission was to help him try and find a buyer but thus far has not helped. as you said, you'd rather buy a club with a bigger stadium than ours. So we have the planning permission, helps remove that objection without the expense of building the extension and having it empty.

many prefer a house ready to move into, rather than the hassle of extending, which is why a extended house does not have the same value as a house fully designed large from day one.

The madstad was designed large from day one, but the work needs to be done, most buyers are into building a team, not developing grounds. (except man c who are failing at the mo)

If Wokingham District Council hadn't objected to the initial planning application - on the grounds of traffic congestion and also because their policy seems to be to object to anything in the RBC area - then I have no doubts whatsoever that the first stage of the extension would have definitely happened.

NB - planning permission is time-limited - you only have, (I think) 3 years from grant of permission to have started the work in or the permission lapses. True, it's cheaper and easier to reapply than starting from scratch, but there definitely is a time-limit.

At least as far as residential properties are concerned, you have to have started work within five years of obtaining the planning permission, even if all you do is start digging the foundations. I'm not aware of the rules being different for non-residential works, so I'd guess the five years is still valid.
