So, if he has a good first season then he only has one year left. What happens to our good players with one year left

I was aware we were in talks from Matt Mills twitter, it's the reason I thought him leaving was a non-starter initially. He said he wanted to play in the same team as him. But then it turned out he followed the money using the excuse of ambition.

From MaccyD's comments this was a relatively recent thing (the WIP signing), but I agree we'd obviously been talking a couple of months ago. I wonder if we decided initially not to bother when Matt sodded off because we didn't need him that much, then realised when teh season started that Harte and Williams just weren't going to be good enough..

good signing imo, he and cummings would be 2 brilliant full backs getting forward supporting jobi and jimmy unlike harte and griffin, think the defence is getting stronger now just need a CB, wonder if we will put another bid in for Robinson?

Snowball Is it my imagination or do we have the players for 5-3-2, maybe next season?

Cummings RB but can play RM, Mills LB but can play LM

-----------McCarthy or Feds

Cummings Pearce Morrison/Harte Khumalo J-Mills
Elwood Karacan
-----Kebe -------- Hunt/Manset -------HRK

I don't think we'll get away with 14 players on the pitch m8.

And we'd probably still lose even if we did.

Either/OR

Hopefully be have a look at him tomorrow. Big game for him actually - could really stake a claim for a starting spot in the league with a solid performance. I know its League 1 opposition but Charlton are obviously tipped to do well so a good show there with decent performances in training and he could well be challenging Harte straight away.

FiNeRaIn 1 year contract? Wow, talk about having faith in the player. Whatever happened to straight 3 year contracts when you thought a player would be good enough...you want them tied down.

Marcus Williams, thats what happened...

Oh and Mooney, Sodje, Davies etc

it's effectively a 2 year contract if we take the second year option. the boy has a contract to play for. that's motivation. that's better than the over-paid dross who turn up every week and under perform.

The second year option is a one way thing? He has to stay if we take it?

If not, then he's in exactly the same position as any other player in that he can decide to go elsewhere at the end of the first year.

Anyway we don't really have a good record for honouring option deals - ask Salako.

Ark Royal Reckon that BMcD has looked at this as partly solving solving his centre-back problem. Mills will go in at left back and Harte will move to the centre either as first choice or cover for Pearce and Khumalo.

Should make for a pretty pedestrian central defence!

Yes he does. He's signed an agreement where by he basically has a 2 year contract if we decide to activate the second year.

Salako was done when we decided not to offer his optional extra year. That's the whole point to that deal. He knew it when he signed it, and he was happy to do so.

Very happy with this signing. It's a typical Reading signing and now Harte has to improve or lose his place in the side.

Hopefully Marcus Williams will be off in the next week and recoup a small fee him.

He left for both money AND ambition - why are people having trouble understanding this?

The concept of ambition is a little sketchy in these parts.

Hows that working for him? Lost to a shit side, lost to a decent side, drew with a decent side, beat a shit side.

We on the other hand, have lost to a shit side, lost to a decent side, drew with a decent side and beat promotion favourites.

How about you wait until the end of the season, the league isn't decided after four games. Expect better from you, that's pure footballing ignorance.

A player discarded by a rival Championship club doesn't exactly fill me with confidence, although I hope to be proved wrong.

BMC has a good eye for a player, but this signing only looks like we could be preparing for life in League 1. Not the response the fans wanted Mr Mad.
