I'm questioning the OTT reactions of "sane" people to the story. Prince William (or was it Harry?) apparently interevened "for the good of football" at the weekend. Hope to see the Pope get involved too. It's a burning issue.

You could apply that logic to virtually everything in the world. But the conduct of FIFA does have an impact on those interested in football if decisions as to where the world's biggest and most interesting tournament is held are determined by the use of funds.

Obviously it isn't a shock that such a massive fan of an organisation as corrupt as the EU wouldn't give a fck about this, however, it affects EVERYBODY who is a football fan; had there been a clean vote on 2018, England would have won - that would have brought vast amounts of money into the country at large and for football in particular, not least from the increase in interest in all types of football that would have been generated by the tournament being here.

had thee been a clean vote for 2022 Australia may well have won it, thus helping raise the profile of the sport as it tries to emerge against far more established sports.

England's bid for the World Cup was unsuccessful, only receiving 2 out of 22 votes from the FIFA executive committee in the first round of voting. The rights to host the 2018 World Cup were eventually awarded to Russia.

Well I think it's probably less endemic throughout bank senior employees, but otherwise it isn't worse. Bent foreign governments? deplorable definitely less of our business. In terms of EU / our government I think there's a difference between wholescale corruption and fiddling your expenses for a duck pond, even it that is still definitely bang out of order. Likewise the relative scale of graft and incompetence

Reasonable point made on TalkSport this morning that a road for UEFA to go down might be to increase pressure for the full release of Garcia's report; Blatter's position could be untenable if it is shown he suppressed information related in some way to these arrests.
