Going forward Germany have been superb but I can't recall England defending as badly as this before. This is the first time I can ever remember seeing England so badly beaten in the World Cup Finals.

The England defence was pulled around all over the place by terrific passing and movement by the opposition. Germany were nothing special defensively but you have to give credit to some terrific football when they went forward.

It all depends how you want to play.
If you want to play 4-4-1-1/4-5-1 where Rooney is "in the gap", then that's fine. You still can't build the team around him, because he is just that gap player.
You need a proper striker up front, someone like Alan Shearer or Les Ferdinand, who could both dish it out AND score goals. (Something HEskey CAN NOT do.)

When you put HEskey on, sure you gain heading ability, but then you hamper the team by having zero mobility, zero on the ball skill, and ZERO chance of the said player EVER scoring a goal, unless hell freezes over.


I think England would be better off having allround strikers that have a high work rate. For example Bent. It's a shame Kenwyne JOnes is from Trinidad.

Then you really must have a left wing, when you don't you get an unbalanced side. First of all you leave a big giant gap on that side when defending, and there's never going to be any threat from the left wing when attacking. It is just horrible. Pick anyone, even from the championship or league one, anyone who can bomb down the left and put the odd cross in. ANyone is better than having no one.

Well to be fair Rooney has proved for United he can lead the line and Scored plenty doing it, we just need to play to his strenghts. Not sure how many of his goals were in friendlys sorry. As for left wing Adam Johnson could hopefully go on to fill that spot or even possibly Ashely Young.

I don't know what you expect from your goalkeeper, but when you let Klose through on the goalkeeper by himself, I don't expect the goalkeeper to make the save.
Similarly when you allow Podolski to shoot from 10 yards I don't expect the goalkeeper to make the save.
However that one goal I mentioned, I feel like James went to the right when he should have gone to the left (his left), and that hampered his chance of stopping the ball. Perhaps if he had kept that one out it might have been a different game.

The first thing I expect from my goalkeeper is for him not to change his mind and get himself stuck in no-mans-land, like he did with the first. I grant you, Terry or Upson Should have closed Klose down before then but they didn't and James was stuffed from that point on because he was no-where

PLEASE don't clamour for the sacking of Capello. We had a great qualifying campaign and we've had a dip in form. Now we need continuity, to build for 2012.

He said he'd only pick players on form, and players who were fit...... but bottled it at the last minute and took out-of-form and injured "bigger name" players. I lost all respect for him right then

People are a sucker for Capello's record as a club manager, but look closer at it because apart from 1 European Cup/Champions League win with Milan back in the early 90s it sucks when it comes to knock out competition.

I think he's scored 13 in total and 2/3 in actual finals. not sure how many games that is in though.
