Decent point made in today's Fiver that I'd forgotten about - Neville has made four appearances this season, and in two of these has escaped appropriate punishment for clear red card offences. Particularly in the Stoke game, where a dismissal for his second foul on Etherington wouldn't have been harsh, yet Andre Marriner didn't even see it worthy of a second yellow. However good he may have been, I think this retirement is overdue.

You clearly have issues with Gary Neville. I suggest we park them for now. Lets look at the facts rather than some whimsy from the Guardian that guiltily furiously w*nks over the Premier League whilst utterly ignoring the rest of English football. He was clearly the stand out England (Premier League) right back in the last 15+ years - I mean, Danny Mills anyone? He was Man Utd's first choice right back for how many years? Any twat that says he wasn't any good shouldn't be expressing opinions on football.

If I'm being honest, rather than making poor attempts at fishing, I actually have a soft spot for Neville. He's got a bit more personality than most footballers, and I enjoyed his plan to bring this to the countryside over Bolton. I'd agree that he's probably the standout English right-back of recent times, but as you suggest this is hardly a close-run thing given the other contenders.

Fair enough, the fact that he was first choice for Man Utd ( rather than the England argument - with the obvious paucity of talent etc well spotted) for such a long time when he could have been replaced shows how good he really was. Probably the best right back in the last 15 years in the English game.
