Or have you considered,

Cummings LB
Harte CB
Pearce/Bongo CB
Karacan RB
McAnuff/HRK/Obita LM
Elwood CM
Lansbury CM
Kebe RM

?

Not sure we'd do much better playing without a 'keeper or strikers. Could give it a go against Charlton I suppose.

Keeper and striker irrelevant, illustrates the point of what rejiggling in midfield/defence could take place if we signed Lansbury you string

Really? I hadn't thought of that.

Still doesn't really fit McDermott's style at all to have one defensive and one attacking midfielder in a 4-4-2. I'd be more than happy to see it, it looks good and I've thought for a while that Karacan would make a good full back.

Karacan RB, Tabb in might be worth a try.

I'd like McAnuff RB and Obita or HRK in, tho.

Or, of course, get Griffin fit, slimmer, injury-free...

We will never have a creative central midfielder while the focus of our attacking play is down both flanks within a 442 formation. We don't have a striker capable of playing up front on his own so Lansbury, or anyone else like him just won't happen.

The only way we could accommodate such a player would be if we went back to the 90s and play with 3 CBs and two quick, pacy and skillful wing backs. Sadly, Griffin and Harte prevent this from happening.

Hence, changing for Cummings and McAnuff/Karacan

No one really plays with three CBs and wing backs these days from what I can tell. I think it's for a reason. It doesn't seem like it'd be very effective against most styles teams play these days to me.

I'd love to see us bring in more creativity in the middle, but people need to be realistic and realise it isn't going to happen without a drastic change in style whilst McDermott's with us.

We've got other areas that would be better to strengthern, in our existing system.

IR agree .... we do not have that creative player that can turn a game , we depend on the two wingers who blow more cold than hot ....and the alternative is hoofball.....i know Marek didnt work out, but he's the sort of player the club need right now but BM can only work with the budget he has ...im sure if he had a larger budget he would consider formation changing.....

Hes working with the players he has in the positions that they are most effective which dictates his set-up, but maybe not want he wants to do imo

We do have a player who can do it, he just doesn't score enough.

Im assuming you are talking about Howard ? Id forego 10 goals from him if he could create an additional dozen for the front players

I'd rather play a boring 4-4-2 with defensive CM's and McNotGoodAnuff than play that pcunt Howard

Henri Lansbury will seek showdown talks with Arsene Wenger before deciding whether to sign a new contract at Arsenal or hand in a transfer request.

The youth team graduate has spent the past season on loan at West Ham, but returns after the play-offs desperate to know whether he has a future at Arsenal.

It is thought Arsenal want the 21-year-old to sign a new deal as he has just a year left on his current deal.

It is understood that he England Under-21 star would request a transfer rather than sign a contract extension and go on loan for a fifth straight season.

With the likes of Swansea, Norwich and Reading likely to be interested if he was available at the right price, Lansbury could have his pick of clubs if Wenger does not give him assurances.
