For those who remember, how were the changes away from hoops and then back to hoops recieved?

The move from hoops to sky blue in 1965, and also away from hoops to white shirts in 1953, were seen as modernisations in keeping with the times.

1965 I think we also saw the launch of the Evening Post and Friday night football at Elm Park; we were hoping to emulate Cov City (!!). The kit lasted 4 years. I believe it was welcomed.

1953 was post Coronation and in an era of worrying about Continental tactics (soon to be brought home to us by Hungary that November). It lasted 2 years. I don't think it was liked.

in 1983 new chairman Smee decreed the end of hoops and back to sky blue (which he made his RFC debut in). Again the start of a new era after the end of years of Frank Waller. It took 10 years to get back to hoops this time after a series of increasingly awful kits, ending up with the TV interference one. I think we were just glad the clubs was still alive for the first few kits but there was a low-key campaign in the ealry 90s to bring back hoops which everyone was delighted with.

That first Pelada/Brookes hooped shirt with a nice collar and proper wide hoops was very well received from what I recall.

I even seem to remember Kevin Dillion commenting in the Post that the players loved the new comfortable and smart shirts. After the Hat Painting shirts that wasn't surprising though, but everyone I knew loved the hoops and the different colour variations on the change kits.

That few years is probably my favourite kit wise, probably helped by the team McGhee put out in them too mind!

I am against any move away from our traditional blue and white hoops. Anyone who dares to suggest this is obviously on the wind up.

Not really, the hoops just went in a different direction that's all!

Fair point - it was a mash-up between sky blue and our 1890ish-1938 navy blue stripes, navy blue shorts.

The away kit from 91-92 was fantastic! Bit bias because that was my first season watching.

I quite like hoops but think blue has a depressing effect on players as it’s associated with feeling down.

However I was watching the champion’s league recently and an obscure foreign team managed to beat the mighty Barcelona by wearing Green and white hoops, as no real football teams wear that colour we could adopt the same jerseys.

Being green is quite trendy among our more affluent supporters; we already have a wind turbine nearby and are build on a rubbish dump so I think it would be a good idea to be football’s first eco-team and the new colour could support that.
We could ban cars from the surrounding area (replacing the car park with bike racks), only sell organic food on the concourse and wear shirts made out of hemp.
It would also tie in well with Waitrose’s sponsorship as it matches their corporate ideology and colour scheme which is important in the modern game.

Quite frankly, who gives a oxf*rd what kit is worn as long as the team is winning?

Going back to the start of the Smee era, we switched to light blue and white stripes with navy trim. That kit looked smart and classy. The Patrick manufactured abortions though left me uninspired so when the kit changed again to sky blue shirts with navy trim, this was a marked improvement that was dramatically halted by the tv interference home shirt and the arrowhead away one. 92/3 saw the reintroduction of hoops which was greatly welcomed by all and sundry.

Sometimes it's a psychological thing though. If you feel you look good in a kit, you might play better by a few %. Ok - this might not help Reading at the moment, but the current kit is just awful.

don't think we need to change colours but why not go back to the blue and white striped shirts we wore in the 1920's / 1930's
