A m8 of mine is from Gibraltar and plays for the cricket team - there's a kind of islands and minnow nations circuit of international matches. He's a half decent cricketer in any case.Bandini wrote:Gibraltar's Dennis Compton: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Buzaglo

So throw England, Scotland, Wales and NI out of UEFA too.

Spain and Gibraltar will be kept apart in qualifying draws - similar to what happens with Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Georgia and Russia. Spain won't play Gibraltar and thus Gibraltar won't affect them.Stuka wrote:Weird! What was the motivation for that?Clyde1998 wrote:Interesting to see that Spain voted Gibraltar in
But only if they seen as countries by the UN in line with the UEFA rule book.Barry the bird boggler wrote:Let's clarify this...
The Isle of Man and the Channel Islands (split as Jersey and Guernsey) are what's known as British Crown dependencies. This means they while they are possessions of the British crown they are, in fact, self governing. Also, because they are independently administered, they are NOT part of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth or the European Union (except for the movement of goods). They are members of the British-Irish council however and they are also treated as part of the UK for British passport control purposes.
Acts passed in the British parliament do not apply to crown dependencies unless explicitly stipulated, however parliament does have the right to legislate for the Islands if it is necessary to do so but this is very rare. The only matters deferred to the UK government are matters concerning defence, citizenship and diplomatic representation.
Gibraltar is classed as a British Overseas Territory, this means that it is under the jurisdiction of the UK but is not actually a part of it. Territories are former parts of the British Empire that have either not acquired independence or have voted to remain as British. There are 14 British Overseas Territories in total.
The United Kingdom is a sovereign state comprising of the countries; England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Great Britain is another name for the United Kingdom although when it was first used it did mean only the countries of Scotland, England and Wales. Lastly the term British Isles includes the United Kingdom and the whole of Ireland.
Therefore Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man could all be next up to join UEFA.

Richard Osman is much more reliable arbiter than is UEFA and Gibraltar don't qualify.
