wait till Norwich comes around as that was closer to £40 a few years a go. Nothing new from Ipswich though, and has probably come down a couple of quid in the last few seasons

What's best route via train?

Personally doing Reading - Paddington - Kings Cross - Cambridge - Ipswich (but I'm breaking the journey at Stowmarket). If you choose this route, make sure you split the journey as on a straight through Reading - Ipswich ticket the route isn't valid. Works out at £57.80, which is only £4.80 more than a day return from Reading to Ipswich.

Reading to London Underground Z1 = £23.30
Kings Cross to Cambridge = £16.90
Cambridge to Ipswich = £17.60

Thought this was a long winded route but the Liverpool Street - Colchester - Ipswich route (bette rsplit ticket option) has engineering works. Got caught by this once before - its the bus to nowhere and takes ages.

Get the train m8. It's a good service when running well. The away pub is superb too - even has a jukebox with good selection.

Basically it all depends where you're going in "London". The A12 meets up with the M25 and then the North Circular so the only issue really would be if you're heading for central London rather than the outer areas such as Romford or something.

Cheers gents. Was 50/50 about this but now IN for first trip to Portman Road. Will be sober though as driving into Faringdon afterwards.

Just looked at National Rail as had slight interest in going and apparently getting to and from Ipswich Saturday involves getting a bus.

Sod that. On my last two visits I've had rail replacement from Newbury Park station and then horrendous rain causing a tree to fall on the line and add a 2 hour delay! Both after 3-1 defeats I believe. Life.
