I'd pretty much guarantee they will. They've obviously done it with others and, given the circumstances, the cost involved would be relatively small. Additionally, many employers will have NDAs in the initial employment contract (folks dig yours out and have a look), so formally reinforcing that with a further agreement (for a small consideration) is really just a belt and braces job.

Expressing personal fears and reservations wouldn't be breaching an NDA. So he could, for example, say; 'I feared that we were going to lose many of our best players during the January window, leaving us with an even smaller squad and me and my coaching team with an impossible task'.
