If my memory serves me right, often he was a poor player for us and had 1 or 2 purple patches a season. If we want to get promoted we need players who can deliver consistently. He is a big personality which we liked here but sounds like it was downfall at Cardiff which also concerns me.

We can’t just bring in players not good enough for the division above on the basis that “they’d do a job in league one”. If he’s genuinely the best option we have then fair enough, but feel we should be looking for those who already play in the division.
I don’t think its fair at all to say he was often poor with a few purple patches.

You seem to be misrepresenting people's reasons for signing him too.

We're going to struggle very hard to recruit quality League One players with the potential to step up from within League One, especially without paying significant (at this level) fees to prize them away from.their current club.
My post was not, on the whole, meant to be representative of what I felt people wanted him for. The point I was more so getting at is that Cardiff fans being happy to see the back of him is perhaps a very good indicator at how the past two seasons have gone for him. That doesn’t exactly show much indication of a player who is at least now good enough for the championship. At 29 he’s unlikely to get any better.

My acknowledgment he could well still be the best option out there already addresses the things about fees.

I'm sure back in the day, QPR fans would have been glad to see the back of Leigertwood, Burnley fans same on Glen Little etc etc

Neither of them were suffering on the back of a serious ACL injury which is known for affecting player’s careers for the worst. Meite barely played in his last two Reading years due to injury and his lack of form at Cardiff probably suggests he has declined as a result of it.

Hunt, and more especially Carney aren’t going to sign him out of nostalgia. If he comes back it will because we are confident he’s fit and able. Our recruitment has been pretty good recently, I don’t think they will get sloppy now so no point us getting over concerned (not that it’s not a valid discussion point amongst friends !)

We wouldn't be talking about him if the injury hadn't effected him.

He played plenty for Cardiff over the last two years so he's clearly recovered enough to play regular Championship football

It’s a no from me.

I don’t want us to start recruiting former players. Yaks is a great person, but I can’t help thinking we’d end up regretting signing him.

I want to see the same recruitment as in the summer of 2023. I want us to sign players like Savage and Elliott and be pleasantly surprised.

Hunty, will live or die by this recruitment and so far so good. Hopefully, him and Brian can get it right.

Yep 77 apps for Cardiff in the last 2 years but only 35 starts would suggest he either wasn't playing well when given a chance or just didn't fit the way the club wanted to play.

As with any player, whether they have played for us before or not, if they fit a role that the management team want and they are the best option we can get in our budget, then great - as said in the last couple of years, our recruitment has been spot on working within restrictions, I would hope that that doesn't end just because we have a bit of freedom back.

There’s no question his spell at Cardiff wasn’t a success

The stats do suggest he was at least offering something though and also fit to play

Sounds like the crowd were getting on his back last year

I do absolutely think he’d do a solid to good job in this division. It’s a big drop in quality from the champ

He always seemed quite an emotional guy, needs to feel loved. Don’t think he got that at Cardiff. If back in the right environment he might flourish.

We need a winger, possibly two, now Campbell has gone. Seems we are at a bit of a cross roads at the moment in the transfer market. It’s been clearly documented we are in the free market and loan markets this season.

The question is are there any wingers out there, within our budget, who want to join us on a free better than him? I’d probably say no.

Then we have the loan market. Problem with the loan market is we will have to wait towards the back end of the market closing to get loans in. Clubs need to finalise their squad and decide on players they want to send out either surplus to requirements or to get some experience for younger players. Leaving it late is a gamble as we might not get the players in we want.

If he wants to return, and noel wants him, and is within our budget, and we think he will stay fit, then I don’t have an issue. He’s still only 29, if he hasn’t lost it, we’ve got a good 4 years left in him. Put it like this, I can’t see him being any worse than camara…

Meite's strength was never really skill, it was his attitude and physicality.

He went at you full on and tried to make things happen, putting his body on the line. Like a big Stephen Hunt. That's going to make most L1 fullbacks nervy, even if he's lost some pace.

Admittedly Garcia handled him admirably in our pre-season friendly, but that's one 20 odd minute spell in a friendly

It's in a position where we have next to nothing, so perhaps worth the risk.

I saw some fans on Twitter talking up Rinomhota, when I'm not convinced he'd get into our team.

If I’ve understood correctly he was utterly underwhelming at CM for them, switched to RB and then won players pots. Cardiff fans don’t seem to happy he has left from what I’ve seen

So yes I’d take him as a RB 100% not as a CM

Apparently he's had family issues so wants to move back to be closer. So if we rule out Prem sides it's us, Portsmouth, Oxford.

That's a damn good point actually, I wouldn’t consider him at DM, he doesn’t have the passing range of Wing or Craig. And I wouldn't have him box to box as he doesn’t have the creative or shooting ability of Savage, Wing, Elliott or Knibbs.

But, if he's successfully transitioned to RB, I would take him there, for the right price, over renewing Yiadom or ahead of Abrefa, any day of the week. Yids is great but his powers are clearly waning , his fitness isn’t there to play a full season and there's the (admittedly decreasing) risk he goes offfor weeks to the Africa cup thing.

Unless the Ivory Coast call Meite up of course.

Nice Lost Files photo of a former player posing with a ballboy on twitter this morning...

I can only assume we've signed the ballboy on a 1+1 deal.

Would I have Meite back? probably not unless it's a 2 year contract and his wage isn't extortionate.

Would I be disappointed if he did return? Hell no! he'd probably do quite well in league one with his physicality but he's definitely not quite the same player he once was.

In Couhig's latest interview he was asked directly if Yakou Meite would be coming back - his reply -

"I can't hear you, there must be something going wrong with our transmission"

Make of that what you will
