Any British players moved abroad recently where it hasn't worked out as they can't settle? - Might be an opportunity to loan them back.... not likely to be any at our level though.

Did any impress at the World Cup for the likes of Cape Verde or Bosnia & Herzegovina? They don't have to have won any games or scored any goals at that level to be a success in League One. I would imagine international clearance might be helped by the fact they played in the WC, unless they played for Iran, That might be a tough one to get past immigration.

Now that Big Kelvin has been confirmed i'm really torn on what we need? Marriott is great if fit and Brown has 2 in 2 and Patton is out injured for two months!!

When fit what is the pecking order of our strikers? i presume at the moment it will be Marriot, Brown and Patton. However, Marriott will get 25 starts at best, which leaves Brown with the rest with Patton backing up once fit.

I'm guessing any new striker will push Patton out so do we go big for a new number one or just a back up to Marriott and Brown? or will Brown be the back up Attacking midfielder? Questions, Questions!!!

We should have a few quid in the kitty from Kelvin's sale and maybe something from the possible sale of Azezz if it happens soon, which is pretty decent money. With Patton fit we could have played the waiting game but now we really need someone sooner rather than later.

I would expect something to happen next week if its going to happen?

The ideal would have been bring in an experienced striker to act as competition for Marriott and Brown allowing Patton to go on loan to a L2 club until January (initially) with a view to bringing him to the first team in the second half of the season if he shows the development we all hope he will.

Obviously that plan has now gone out of the window with Patton's injury.

I think we can all agree we are a striker short, Marriott will not last all season, WiFi is off, Brown is more like WiFi than a centre forward and has had his injury issues and Patton will be great but not yet.
Most of the best strikers from league 1 last year are too expensive, already moved or are likely to stay where they are so there is really 4 other options.

Take a punt on a league 2 striker, Hale, Bonis or Drinan. High chance of failure but atleast know the English leagues and would need to step up.

Wait for a Marriott style player to drop out of the Champ once squads are settled. Maybe a Bishop style of signing? This is unlikely at the moment as centre forwards seem really scarce and if they do become available they are either usually injury prone or third or 4th choice older players.

Or look abroad. This brings its own risk as usually need to settle into the english leagues and take a bit of time to get going.

Sign a youth player on loan from prem or champ. Yet again high risk, usually unreliable. Look at last season MOM.

Not necessarily, these players should want to make the step up and prove themselves so a large part would probably rest on the team tactics, coaching and man management they receive at Reading.
