If you compare a concession and a full season ticket, the difference in price per match is £8.40

The club charge £10 for an upgrade, so how is he pulling a fast one?

Therein lies part of the issue. If the ST is a concession (it is implied but not stated in the original post by the suggestion that this is an upgrade), and the person borrowing it is an adult then your figures are totally irrelevant. The numbers that we need to be comparing are those for a concession ST (per match) and the cost for a full price match ticket. That difference is (I believe) in excess of £10 and so that is why the club restricts upgrades to only 3 for the season. I hope that helps.

The three game limit was in place last season so I can't really see you've got much to moan about.

I don't think so. Both my kids have STs and I was able to upgrade for OAPs/adults on one of them on at least 5 occasions last season when I couldn't take one of them along (evening games on a school night or school sports matches on a Saturday afternoon). In the summer the club announced that only 3 upgrades would be allowed per season and only for evening kick offs (excluding 5:15 Saturday Prem Plus games). At the beginning of this season they dropped the restriction to evening games.

Because the club is also trying to avoid the scenario where someone buys a concession ST because they only fancy coming to the big matches against fashionable teams.

In this scenario, where a ST isn't used for a number of games, the cost of games paid for but not used is much less for concession tickets than an adult ticket, so that would make it a much more attractive dodge for someone. But to do that they'd have to be able to upgarde whichever games they'd want.

Not saying for a minute that applies to you, but that's the loophole that is being plugged.

Like so many other things, those few who try and cheat the system make it less flexible for the honest and genuine many.

1. If the person trying to screw the club wants to go every home game then it is not worth their while buying a concession and trying to upgrade every game
2. If the person has bought a concession and only intends to use it by upgrading for the big games, as suggested by Dirk G, then surely he would have been better off taking the risk of getting a ticket at each game at say £35 a game. For the platinum games that would have cost £245, less than a concesssion season ticket (£385) plus £70 for upgrades. (assuming he gets past the barrier of the limit on upgrades)

So I really can't see that there is much in it for these supposed cheats and certainly not knobbly 1871

Better to have the extra revenue and a backside on a seat than worry about the unlikley event that someone is defrauding the club.

If the person has bought a concession and only intends to use it by upgrading for the big games, as suggested by Dirk G, then surely he would have been better off taking the risk of getting a ticket at each game at say £35 a game. You may think that it is an unlikley event that someone is defrauding the club but from what I hear speaking to various people who work in this area it is not at all unlikley. Whenever the club has a crackdown on a particular turnstile to make sure everyone coming through is checked for whether a concession is being abused they catch more than a handful. As Dirk has said it is these people, who are cheating not only the club but those of us who do pay the correct price, who mean that there is much less flexibility for the genuine fans.

You are talking about adults entering on a concession ST without paying to upgrade at all.
