what clubs have you heard offer this?

I haven't seen a free shuttle all season, paid for the shuttle bus in liverpool, paid for the shuttle train at old trafford, paid for the "football special" bus to city of manchester stadium...

The only ground I ever saw offer free transport was Brighton who have a stub on their ticket allowing free use of the trains from stations close to brighton

There are plenty of ways of getting to the stadium without driving, especially if you do not have to worry about small children.

And for those of us who don't live near Reading? I would think that with more seats, there will also be an increase in poeple from outside the city. Public transport, by its nature cannot cater for everyone.

The club is trying to encourage those that do live in and around reading to not use their cars

hence the buses from bracknell, basingstoke, wokingham etc

This should then free up space for those that have to travel longer distances.

I'd say the club should not sell car park season tickets to "able bodied" people living within a 5 mile radius of the ground

Looking at the plans for the Racino there appears to be 344 parking places. Dont know how that compares to what on offer at the speedway track now.

What does interest me more tho' is the artists impression show a sports bar! Hopefully that, and bars at the new hotel, will give a better choice of watering holes for a pre and post match beer of two.

EP also has the plans for Green Park village that includes a railway station which might help access a bit

How do you define "not near Reading".

The main problem we have is that Reading is infested with lazy tossers who can't travel 50 yards without getting in their cars.

I live in Thatcham and get to games via bus, bike, train or any combination of the three.

But I know at least one person who drives to the stadium car park from Whitley Wood Lane.

i am over 20 miles from the stadium and never use the stadium car park

sometimes its the train ad bus but now I have started driving to bracknell and the direct bus from there

fantastic service! leaves brackmell around 1:30 depending where you are looking to get on

arrives the stadium at 2

leaves about 5:10 and back in bracknell around 5:45

Don't the club already subsidise the bus service? Any charge is made by Reading Buses not RFC.

The club stopped subsidising the buses this season.

There should be no need for anyone to subsidise buses that are packed full of people on all of their journeys. IMO the fares charged should more than cover the operating costs. I suspect football supporters are actually subsidising over aspects of Reading buses operations.

Interesting that the article says the station would be up and running for October 2008 - nicely coinciding with the first phase of our expansion.

Quite agree. The fare pricing structure seems pretty stupid to me. For example.

Football special from Newbury to the Madejski - £5.50 return for a 1 hour 15 min, 20 mile journey.

Football shuttle from Reading Station to the Madejski - £3 return for a 15 minute, 3 mile journey.

I just don't understand that.
