I remember the season where one of the So Solid Crew stewards thought himself a bit tasty when people kept surging towards the front
He started mouthing off and offering people out safe in the knowledge that he was working and supported by the OB
Until he got outside and got on the same bus with all of us going back to Ealing Broadway..brave boy

Good memories of Brentford games going back to the early 90s.

- 1990. Being crammed into a corner of the stand down the side (which was standing then) despite us having sold over 1500 tickets.

And some locals on the away terrace decided to have a pop at a few Reading fans at the back

- The 1993/94 season, an absolutely packed New Inn jumping pre-match. Got to the away end to find absolute carnage when it was clear not everyone was going to get in. Saw blokes climbing over walls, only to be dragged back down by mounted police. I think Blackie only managed to get in the home end with 5 mins left to preserve his attendance record.

- 1999 (ish). Evening game. train up to Ealing Broadway late afternoon. Got completely battered in the New Inn with Nick Ive who asked one of us to do the fans verdict. By 7pm we were downing double brandys. My mate did the fan's verdict after the game despite the fact that he could barely talk, and couldn't remember the score or scorers

- 2001ish. Similar to 93/94 with huge queues and agitated police before the game. I think we all got in this time, though? Scuffling in the concourse at half time, mainly because it was dangerously overcrowded and the Met thought hitting people with truncheons would solve the problem.

- 2002. Of course. New Inn (again), radio rental for Curo's goal, crutch boy at the station after the game. Classic.

I miss Brentford (Fulham just isn't the same) The sooner they get to the Prem the better!

Could be worth keeping an eye on the Brentford website, their friendly fixture with AFC Wimbledon at Griffin Park was postponed on Saturday due to a swarm of winged horses engulfing TW8. No, not really - it was rained off.

I was there for that one, top tier in the left corner. Remember hearing and seeing the scuffles down below as I was trying to get down the stairs at half time, definitely seemed like there were too many people in the stand that evening. Were there not some outbreaks of scuffles post game as we were leaving as well with the Brentford fans in the side to the left of us after as well? Seem to remember the walk round that corner being full of mounted police and various scraps.

Yes, there was definitely a fair amount of windmilling going on. Mostly emanating from the boys in blue, though.

Hi all,

I have been reliably informed that a gent I know (Spurs fan) is taking the half time challenge at the Brentford match (kicking a ball into the centre circle from the goal line I think) in a Reading shirt.

All those going, please give him as much grief as possible. I lost money to this gent on a bet last year after becoming far too confident in the mighty Reading early season.

I'm hoping to be there myself but with this weather and a long journey to the game from work, I might not make it.

His name is Ed.

i was thinking of going and taking my 13yr old son but after reading your entries is it safe to take him or will i be constantly looking over my shoulder?

I well remember those words being used prior to a certain game at Aldershot.

Good call. Coupled with the hour train to get to Ealing from work, that's a good few cans in prep.

This looks like it might lead to a 'work from home' on Thurs at this rate.

Should be no trouble. Certainly was no trouble last time we had them there in a friendly. I spent a couple of hours after the game in one of the pubs on the corner of the ground chatting with some of their chaps. Very civilized. It is only a friendly after all.
