I take my mocking. Fair enough. When I posted it I was thinking with him out of favour we might we able to get him for £5-6m. Certainly worth it to me as an England international with an excellent career goal-scoring record.

I guess I figured that we might be on the 'fringes' of those mid-table clubs who might interest players like Defoe who are basically told their future lies elsewhere.

Our location is a plus too - Bournemouth, West Ham, Spurs. Will he really up sticks to Everton, Newcastle or Villa. Add to that, as above, Everton and I think Newcastle too, are fine for attacking options.

'twas just a thought, anyhoo.

cmonurz Told he can leave Spurs by Ramos, and unlikely to go to any of the big four, or Everton, who have plenty up front. A return to West Ham perhaps? Or Reading? Why not? Instinctive goal-scorer, quick – I think Defoe could be just the sort of partner to thrive off of Kitson, who is a Berbatov with work-rate.

Thoughts, nobbers?

You think to much!

It's this sort of attitude throughout the club and it's fans that will always make Reading a very small fish.

We are though, and that wont change for some time yet!

We wouldn't offer Sidwell £25k a week, how are we supposed to tempt one of the better strikers in the Premiership to join us?

with money. No saying neccesarily about Defoe, I'd agree with other people that striker at this moment isn't a priority, that could change when and if Lita goes but right now it's not. But if Reading want to go to this 'Next level' that our chief executive talks about in every interview then Reading need to start behaving like a Premiership club.

I'm with you 100%, and I'm very frustrated with it all to be honest, almost fed up with it all.

We hear it all the time. Talk though is cheap, footballers aren't.

I don't like Defoe. I really don't.

He can finish and finish well but the attitude, the inability to play outside of the box, limited strength. Its not what I'd want from a striker.

However, it is the type of signing that we'll have to make sooner rather than later. You have to be utterly one-eyed to miss the fact that he's a better finisher than what we've got. He's a bigger name than anyone in our side and that could bring other players to the club.

We won't sign him - we're well short of where he'll go. He'll go to the next rung down - Villa, Everton, City (Newcastle and Spurs make up the group in my mind). But this is the next level we're being promised by the management.

Good player but would upset the team.
We already have two class strikers (whom I imagine coppell is more than happy with).

If Lita does go, we need an up & coming replacement who knows he'll be knocking on the door from the off, an established striker like defoe would demand a 1st team spot every week and push kitson or doyle back on the bench. Don't forget we have super-sub longy too!

Defender please Steve-o.

2 goals does not a super-sub make.

Have you seen his barnet?

That "haircut" is not in-keeping with the Reading way.

West Stand Flash Massive LOL for any Reading fans that thinks Defoe would even think of joining Reading.

Even bigger LOL for those Reading fans on this thread who think he isn't good enough for us.

No offence Cmonurzers, but this is the type of thread I would have thought Jay might have started.

I'd be surprised if our top earners are on even half of what Defoe is on and for him to go to a team who aren't at least challenging for a UEFA Cup spot, he would probably be looking for even more money.

And a big LOL at people who think he wouldn't improve our team.
