sick indeed, but the "racism" angle being played out in the media, which is probably a big factor in why quite a few have spoken out against it, appears to have been assumed as there's nothing racist about it.Stooper wrote:That is sick.Dirk Gently wrote:The chant is below :

From memory we had "put the malteser back in the bag" and "who's the malteser in the black".
On top of that we had the usual foul language from him all match. Does he really think he is funny?

I think if the FA do take some action, then they need to be very specific in stating what it is exactly that's unacceptable, ot it'd be the thin end of the wedge in bringing in bans for any stick given to a player
Why should I get into an argument with him and risk getting in to trouble with the stewards myself? He's the one making the comments and he will have to deal with the consequences should I decide to report him.AF1 wrote:Wycombe Royal wrote:So is calling the linesman on Saturday a "malteser" racist and should I report the guy who shouted it on more than one occasion?

Why don't you try growing a pair and saying somefink to him rather than sneaking off and snitching to stewards
Is lynching solely restricted to black men? I'm sure anyone can be lynched.Seal wrote:Nothing racist about it?Rev Algenon Stickleback H wrote:

So the 'hangin from a tree' line couldn't possibly have a link to lynching then?
For the record, I'm not saying it necessary does, but to say that "there's nothing racist about it" feels a little bit dismissive at best.

I have never understood why people like confrontation. Does it make you feel all big and macho? Does it cover up other inadequacies that you have? Personally I would rather leave it to those who are paid to deal with tossers like him.AF1 wrote:Wycombe Royal wrote:Why should I get into an argument with him and risk getting in to trouble with the stewards myself? I don't get paid to, and I am not risking running in to trouble with our (at times) over zealous stewards.soggy biscuit wrote:Grow some man glands and have a word with him.Wycombe Royal wrote:So is calling the linesman on Saturday a "malteser" racist and should I report the guy who shouted it on more than one occasion?

They certainly can. I would however hope that you realise that historically it has a particular association with the black community.Thaumagurist* wrote:Is lynching solely restricted to black men? I'm sure anyone can be lynched.Seal wrote:Nothing racist about it?Rev Algenon Stickleback H wrote:

Why is everyone saying this? Is Wycombe the only person to be hearing the guy? There must have been a good dozen people (at least) that would be within earshot and clearly none of them are saying anything.soggy biscuit wrote:Grow some man glands and have a word with him.Wycombe Royal wrote:So is calling the linesman on Saturday a "malteser" racist and should I report the guy who shouted it on more than one occasion?

Yes, I do realise that there are historical associations with certain phrases, but this isn't America. We have had hangings in this country since and probably before the dark ages.Seal wrote:They certainly can. If you do not realise this, then I suggest you read up on your American History from the Civil War through to about the 1960's....
A hanging isn't necessarily a lynching. HTH.Thaumagurist* wrote:Yes, I do realise that there are historical associations with certain phrases, but this isn't America. Well, yes. But in the chant that Dirk quoted, there is no direct reference to lynching, just "hanging from a tree".John 3:16 wrote:A hanging isn't necessarily a lynching.
