Had to laugh at the fella in the orange RFC shirt , no 69 I think, when Big Clive went in at HT to have a chat with him, having been giving it large a lot, and warned, he tried to avoid Clive, all to no avail, was allowed back tho, and TBH was much better behaved second half

Im old school so I would rather see policemen standing around the ground then a lot of minimum wage legalised wannabe thugs telling us what to do.

Thugs? What are you on? The stewarding at the Mad tad is pretty light touch for most sections of the ground, and even in the se corner it's not really full on. If the police objected to individuals standing, using offensive language, &c., it'd certainly be a lot worse.

And LOL at anybody who thinks that the only problems in the stadium are caused by the stewards.

Don't forget that the Police don't have jurisdiction over standing.

Standing is the ground regulations, which the stewards are there to enforce. The Police can only get involved to assist a steward after someone has been offensive to a steward or others or has refused to obey a steward's orders.

That's all a technicality, of course - in reality it's not like that at many grounds.

Quite - it was a pair of coppers that told somebody near me to sit down early in the match yesterday, although they may also have been reacting to language being used.

Wouldn't disorderly conduct be a broad enough offence to justify a police intervening in any situation anyway?

Yes, absolutely, but if they're trying to enforce ground regulations where there's no disorder, swearing etc and no stewards are involved, they're technically out of order.

there clueless had a argument with one today over the gate they use at half time for the smokers at the end of the game still closed causing a crush situation opened it and got told what was i doing!!!

Yes, what the hell was that all about? Thousands of people all trying to leave the East Stand at once and the only way out is along a relatively narrow stretch of pavement because the numpties have still got the big gates shut!!

Whilst on the subject of stewards, top marks to the yellow coat who exercised common sense and discretion in allowing my kids to hand their flag over the wall last night. In the past some of the more jobs worths have immediately made them take it down. This guy realised that whilst it was slightly overlapping the top corner of the sponsors sign, it was in now way obsuring their name or anything else and allowed it to stay, despite the fact it was a televised match.

This was a situation of give on both sides, I think the steward saw me telling the kids to make sure that the flag covered as little of the board as possible, and shows that there are some good stewards at the Mad Stad. I think it also shows the value of trying to use the same stewards in the same areas of the stadium as much as possible so that they and the supporters get to know what each other is like.

Agree also that continuity of stewards is a good thing - the problem is that when, every week, they are on the receiving end of the people who go to the game with a "them and us" attitude, many don't stay doing the job. Would you if you got abused every week for doing your job?

Actually no standing is the F.A's regulations which the stewards are there to enforce, some of the stewards are alright but what gets up my nose is the fact that myself and many others that sit in y26 are constantly being told to sit down and yesterday random people were being thrown out "to set an example" apparently BUT looking at the away end of the stadium there were a group of fans standing throughout the whole game even though there were stewards stood behind them and other tango's at the tunnel leading into the concourse.
