Bus Question for Saturday/cost of buses

Hi There,

I've already done this on the STAR page, but it died a death there.

I can't believe we're now being charged £4.00 for a return ticket.

I think this is outrageous

If it is because drivers no longer get half price tickets for the game, that doesn't really explain why it's now so expensive.
As for it having to been subsided, well all the buses are full so how could that be the case?

I really want to get this debate going because I feel there is something we can do about it.
Surely it's better all round for more people to use the bus?

Dear Moderater is it possible to turn this into a poll so people can express their opinion.
And put it on the home page for people to see straight away, rather than have it hidden away.

I have contacted other supporters trust and I'm slowly getting some figures in.

for example:

Bristol City £1 each way from City
Sunderland - although there is no special bus since it's so close to the metro. There is a park and ride which is free and that includes the bus.

Maybe McDonald might like to sponsor the bus, since they must make a killing from the supporters.

Have you tried writing a letter or phoning Reading Buses, it is their service and not RFC's

That is what I suggested on the STAR page.

I'm thinking that 1st day of the season should be nice (although at the rate this summers going maybe not)

So lets all have a mass wander down the Relief road in our colours...

I think this could achieve 3 things:

1) A rowdy start to a new season new era, lets bring it in with a bang.

2) Show Reading Bus that we can't be held to ransom - The buses are 2 expensive.

3) Get Reading Council to pay some attention to what's going on.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't Reading Bus owned by the council still?

I can't see this happen and predict several negative responses, but I can only hope.

I haven't contacted Reading Buses yet because I'm trying to get some sort of concenus, hence trying to start a sensible debate on here.
As I said I've contacted other Supporters trust/Fan Club so I can get the bigger picture.
I see no point if I just write as a lone person to Reading Buses until I have the full facts.

Then again if no one else thinks we're being ripped off then I'll leave it.

Back from the game eventually...

Buses as ever were 2 expensive

I had to wait about 30 minutes for 1
Never normally wait that long on a proper match day.
Kept being told there were 12
then a steward said the club only ordered 10
half of those were single deckers

I'm really glad that for my £4 Reading Bus/Club are really taking us seriously.

Mind you I don't suppose anyone on here cares.
It's ,more important to discuss whether the new kit looks any good.

Right then, i'm going to be serious for a moment......As most of you know i'm a bus driver, i did'nt do the buses today and i don't work for Reading Buses anymore,you will see me driving the big Silver one's in the coming games (Weavaway).I know that we get paid a set fee per bus from Reading Transport who hire us,all the monies we take goes straight to Reading Buses.Now i think it's the same with the Bus company and the football club,The club pay Reading Buses a set fee per bus and all the monies taken go back to the club,if that's the case then the club will set the ticket price,i'm not 100% sure on this but i will find out.

I'm not trying to defend Reading Buses believe me,the way Mr James Freeman(The M D ) has lied to all the drivers over the past few months is disgusting,espically the one's in Newbury,That's why i don't work for them anymore as i called him a twat to his face,i can't work for a manager i don't respect or trust !!!!!!!!!! ALL the drivers think the ticket price is disgusting so i would ask you all PLEASE don't take out your frustations on the driver's.

I've got Freeman's Email address somewhere,i'll find it and put it up on here so you can tell him all what you think !!!!!!!!!!

That's really interesting. Someone, somewhere, must be making a pretty good profit out of this particular service and if they're not, they should be fired!

Do RFC have any choice as to who they hire buses/coaches from for this service? Or is it that only Reading buses are prepared to risk their fleet when some of the less well behaved supporters are in town?

Every driver who does the football buses get a match ticket which is half paid for by the club and the other half by the Bus company,that is the truth,the whole truth and nothing but the truth..............

I'm still trying to find out who sets the fares,the bus company or the football club,i asked my boss today and he wasn't sure but he thought it would be the bus company,i will find out and let you all know.........

STAR raised the price increase with RFC only to find they were already on the case and close to agreement with Reading Buses. There will now be no raise in the fares on buses 77 and 79 - there will still be a 50p increase on buses 70 to 76.

For the Burton game only bus 79 will be running.

As I undertand it they have to charge the advertised fare

on snag is it says the "outside reading" buses have been combined this season but that happened last season and stagecoaches timetable is stillposted as 08-09 timetable

£4 is a bit steep really - North Camp to Reading by train £6.40 return, bus to and from stadium £4 return. Car parking £8, plus petrol still comes in less than £10.40. I should have accosted the bloke who gets on at Farnborough North and asked if he wanted to carshare!
