At least Danny Baker goes outside the box. One of the best phone ins he did was based on strange locations where people had played football. I think Ark has a story about this and St. Petersburg. The more routine phone ins on everyday life also worked for me as he would pinpoint something very obvious and take the piss. One such was serving suggestions on food labels.

Agreed, recall he used to do a thing along the lines of how football could be improved where ideas such as mascots having to do the penalty shoot outs and playing games with huge beach footballs surfaced - damn sight more interesting than the cr*p on Boretalk radio where the repeat the same arguments over and over and over again.

One of my favourite phone-in stories I heard on a Danny Baker show was the following:

A fan told how he used to take a radio to football games with him, and listen to the scores coming in after the game. Obviously, the people following him would try and listen to the scores as well (being as mobile phones and scoreboards displaying full-time results from across the country weren't universal then).

So the guy decided to record a tape to play in his cassette/radio after one particular game, and delighted in viewing the eavesdroppers reactions to:
"Man Utd 1 Bradford City 6"
"Spurs 5 Arsenal 5"
etc etc...
