Yes m8. Had the worst landing of my life there, snow storm. All trains to city centre suspended so had to cab it, not that it was that bad in price and we were jibbed out of our hotel. The MTV awards were on and at the last minute we got an email saying our room was double booked but they had space in another hotel. Funny how all people in the gr8 hotel (below) were United fans, bet the MTV corps were all sorted though.

The game was shite, it was cold, we lost 1-0 and there was aggro before the game getting in the ground. Went to a gr8 club after though, loads of fit birds, proper fit. And LOL @ one of the group we were with somehow ending up in Malmo and missing his flight home.

Probably the worst hotel I've ever stayed in

I've seen a few games there as I spent 3 years in Poland. I was 'fortunate' enough to be in attendance when Dino Baggio was struck with a knife that was thrown by the Wisla Krakow fans, for example. Not that I saw what happened or anything. The hooliganism is something I never really got to grips with. When Poland played England in 1997, the home supporters around us were in full voice in the first half. England went one up, Shearer missed a penalty and England were clearly the better team and the home fans (who were mostly wearing club shirts, scarfs and etc, rather than national ones) started singing the names of their clubs or songs about other fans present. And with 15 minutes, and nothing better to do, it simply kicked off. Guys swinging the buckles of their belts at each other and when they were getting tired, the police moved in.

The England fans down the other end were models of good behaviour in comparison and the Poles had absolutely no interest in them. Only in each other.

I can remember the street name ulica Raclawicka but I could not tell you in what direction it was without a map. It took us 20 minutes to walk from the Rynek. I had a great year but was happy enough to leave in the end. Pollution, conservatism and etc. And it feels like a small town very quickly (not that where I live now is different in that respect). But it was 1996-7 so ... yeah, it's a while ago. I spent 2000-2002 in Wroclaw - of the 8 cities I have lived in since leaving Ireland, it's the one I would least like to grace again. The only one, in fact. I lived right in the centre, ideal location but the people in that part of the country seemed to hate just about everyone non-Catholic. And the aftermath of September 11 2001 saw me counting the days to my departure. A nice town that made huge contributions towards my falling in love with Germany.

Krakow is lovely but yes it is small. I've always had a good time in Wroclaw. It considers itself pretty open for Polish standards. But they are Polish standards of course.
