Not a "team" subject I suppose, but in the true value that our fabulous game brings its supporters ,I was very saddened to hear about the sudden death last evening of Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander, having, as we have done, come from the lower reaches of the football league, we can all appreciate how football clubs need managers of the stature of him, a man who spoke from the heart about the game he loved. For anyone who would like to add their own comments on Keith there is a "condolence book" on the Macclesfield FC web site. Not a Team matter I know, but a man, that in the present climate of money mad football, whose passing should not go without comment. RIP keith.

I remember seeing him playing against us for Grimsby back in the 80's. Never prolific but one of those big buggers who always caused us problems. The first ever black manager in the football league who cemented a managerial reputation as a steadying hand at lower league crisis clubs, and by all accounts a genuinely decent man who always had time for people.

Whilst I'm not unmoved by the death of footballers from the 70's or earlier, there's always a sense of distance and unattachment, I never saw them play in the flesh. I'm 38, I'm not old and It's different when it's a player I actually saw play, irrespective of how high or low profile a career he had. For me, there's a genuine sense of sadness at his death

Hearing people eulogize about his achievements (4 successive play off placings for Lincoln City), and in general an all round unassuming guy was interesting and refreshing to hear.

At least he died at home with his family around him. Sad to hear but the best way to go.

I read an amazing article the other week about how people try to pretend to be sad over the deaths of people they don't know to try and have excitement in their lives. Like when Diana died.

It's ok to be happy. It's ok to not be genuinly in tears cos some fella died.

Sad yes, thoughts with family yes....but a bit of banter is a much better way to 'deal' with something that will have no impact on your life.

unfortunately he also never seemed to be any good at managing a football club after his early success at Lincoln but you can't deny, real pioneer for black managers
