The minimal amount of damage to the road they cause is offset by the way in which it is travel that does not directly effect the enviroment - so the road tax argument is pretty redundant tbh.

Gets right up my goat, when I see cyclists down portman road clogging up all the traffic, when there is a perfectly good cycle path. Same with Oxford Road, A33 etc.

Executive summary: Cycle paths are never "perfectly good"

Rant: they have poor surfaces, they have cars parked on them, or they cross junctions and driveways where drivers don't give way, or they share with pedestrians who walk on the cycle bit rather than the pavement, and most importantly of all they NEVER follow the most direct or quickest point from A to B and quite often end abruptly and fling cyclists back into the middle of traffic or sweep you off at sharp angles in random wrong directions. Most cycle paths are just stuck in spare gaps between road and pavement, with no real planning or thought about whether they benefit anyone, just so that councils can claim that they have xxx miles of cycle paths in their borough.

Portman Road is pretty wide. If a car doesn't over take a poxy bike on that road, it's him/her that deserves a kicking tbf! Plus all the dickheads that do 30 and not 40 down there.

most planks cant cycle......some moron knocked my wife over at jacksons corner a few months back as he went through a red light very quickly and sent her flying.....no apologies just a selfish and arrogant "didnt you see me" then he cycled off.....luckily for him i wasnt there....he would have ended up in the kennet along with his jigsaw puzzle of a bike

Install a couple of air horns to jog all cyclists along.
Those that insist on overtaking, undertaking and running red lights, should be forced to install indicators, complusory front and rear lights, a spastic high vis and flashing light on the rear of their back, miners lamp, cycle clips and ride a mongo fold down bike.
