Likely to link up well with Ruel Fox. A star in the making.

Ian Royal Some quality finishes there, but the standard of defending and keeping is apalling. Half his goals he's completely unchallenged. Although he looks like he might be very good at running the offside line.

On that "best bits" I don't think he'd have a prayer in the Championship.

Exactly what I thought about Kevin Doyle when he was at Cork.

Well, as I've said, there's a difference between a player scouted by us and one picked by an HNA regular.

If he's scouted and signed I've faith Hammond, McDermott and the scouts know what they're doing. From that I see no reason to think they're evern considering him though.

Yes .... but I worry if BMc is now able to scout as well and as thoroughly as he did in the past.

I'd like to think he's been replaced as chief scout what with his other priorities now.

I'd hope he's competent and McDermott would be involved in picking him. Combined with Hammond and McDermott before decisions are made and I'm happy to wait for some evidence there is a problem.

Nick Shorey's dad has now taken over most of BM's scouting duties.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious. A trained football scout versus a fan lol.

That said, scouts can be complete pillocks. On the rangers forum there is a poster who sent various letters to the chief scout about a player in south america. He did this for months and sent video clips. The scout ignored this obvious clue and the guy signed on loan for zaragoza and has scored just under 1 goal in 2 in the top spanish league. This fool of a scout obviously thought this guy wasn't good enough for the SPL when we could have had him for peanuts at the time. Whilst rangers spent 3.5m on LOLafferty.

With the amount of resources available in today's game ( no I don't mean football manager - although you do have to wonder how their scouting system is so good compares to a lot of clubs) we should be looking more overseas.

This is back on again, firstly as the player has expressed an interest to move abroad to further his career, secondly because he fits the Reading mould of young and hungry and he has previous history with our scouts.

1871 Royal To be honest I would just like to remind people of someone named Kevin Doyle ..... who I am sure we all went "yeah he is good in the Irish league but thats not the same standard as the championship" .........

Just saying is all ......

Could you also remind us about Bennett and Mooney who both cost the club quite a lot of money.

he doesnt need to as he already proved the point that you can get great players from the irish league for peanuts.
that you can also get duff ones probably goes without saying

and lol at bennet / mooney costing us "quite alot of money"

If you calculate the cost/success ratio between buying obscure players who look half decent in Ireland and buying Premiership cast-offs I think you'll find it strongly in favour of the Doyle's and Mooney's of the world. Although obviously fans care more about the excitement of a 'big' name (Finnbogason is one of the biggest, as they go- thought I better get that poor one in before someone else does) than a clubs management do or should. But from the clubs point of view its better to buy two or three unknown quantities that their scouts rate on the cheap than splash the cash on someone who can't quite cut it at Premiership level and has to drop a division.

Lokeren og Reading vilja Alfreð
Alfreð Finnbogason, miðju- og sóknarmaðurinn snjalli hjá Breiðabliki, hefur ekki haft við að svara símtölum frá félögum víðs vegar um Evrópu sem hafa óskað eftir því að fá hann til skoðunar. Meðal þeirra er enska 1. deildarliðið Reading og þá hefur Lokeren í Belgíu haft augastað á leikmanninum.

Alfred Finnbogason, middle and clever striker with FC, has not had to answer calls from companies across Europe who have sought to have him examined. Among them is English first deildarliðið Reading and then, Lokeren, Belgium had an eye on the player.

Jonny Fordham said that several young Icelandic players are training with the academy at the moment, including Helguson, not sure about FInnbogason though.
