It's not them being a newbie alone that bothers me. It's them being a newbie AND of star status, with a profile that is bigger than the club. Like I said, if they are successful it's even less likely than normal they will hang around. We will be their test club.Faithful Son wrote:I don't think there is anything necessarily wrong with picking an untried newbie. In fact, some of our most successful managers have had no previous managerial experience (Branfoot, McGhee, Pardew, McDermott). TBH it's pretty much a lottery whichever way you go, especially with a whole bunch of clueless owners running the shop. Say what you like about Sir John but he was a pretty good judge of character and appointed far more good managers than bad.Extended-Phenotype wrote:Moyes would be ace.
Stam: I just don't get the excitement on here. If you didn't know his name, you all would be wondering what the fcuk our owners were doing bringing in a manager of zero experience or success. Everyone has t start somewhere but do we really want to be a stepping stone for an untried manager who has probably never heard of Reading?
Was far happier with the proven track record and loyal longevity of McDermott, even if his start was as poor and slow as Clarke's and Adkins before him.

I'd be very happy with this but why would he leave Rangers? They're a massive club about to embark on the biggest challenge of his latest project...Smithy wrote:We should go all out and go for warburton
