I watched some of Clough’s post-match interview. Generally laid the blame on Mansfield for not being good enough, although they thought the first goal was a foul at the near post, and they don’t think Pereira was in control of the ball for the disallowed goal. But similar comments to own here - on top of the game for half an hour but somehow them find themselves 3-0 down.

Replying to a couple of comments above, their first-choice keeper was injured in the warm-up, and they played someone in central midfield (forget his name) who they think is probably really a right wingback, and that was why they couldn’t control midfield.

Or is it more that as the team is more balanced this year we aren't as reliant on him doing something incredible (for our level) to open up a defence or turn a game - so he is playing a bit more of the Harper style role, just keeping things ticking over with some nice "standard" passing and letting the front 4 do the damage?

Therefore he is a bit more unnoticed and "shit".

According to the stats on WhoScored - he played 4 key passes, played more passes than anyone else (62) with the 2nd best pass completion rate (85.5%) - only Earthy had better from 25 passes - put in the most crosses and won 3 tackles - tied with Rinohmota.

So yeah, he was "shit".

I didn’t think he had a great game - those pass stats are helpful enough but I don’t know what percentage of those were backwards or safe balls. Or in the last ten when we were playing keepball and Mansfield had long since given up trying

I wouldn’t say shit as such but for me him and Paudie both looked a couple of notches below everyone else on the day

I didn’t think he had a great game - those pass stats are helpful enough but I don’t know what percentage of those were backwards or safe balls. Or in the len we were playing keepball and Mansfield had long since given up trying

He is playing in a different position to last season though, right? Seems to be playing deeper. Maybe he's being coached differently this season? Stats back up his contributions. So even if there are some backwards passes, the overall effect has been a positive one. Retention of ball, "safe" sold build up play?

Maybe but if he was being tasked with mainly recycling possession and only looking long if something is on - it would follow that he would look "out of sorts" or a couple of notches below the others, esp as the front 4 were having a field day from the first goal.

This is one big difference, it looks like we have players in front of Wing now who can do the damage rather than needing him to hit a worldy - we appear to be able to create in other ways but know there is still a chance that if the ball falls to wing 25/30 out, he could thunderbastard it.

Thought it was shit from C1871, it got a bit dull and we couldn't get the ball forward out of the defence but I think this is a hangover effect from the football on show at the end of last season, but yeah there's too many oxf*rd in C1871 who lead the negativity.

Never one for booing really but we were pretty hopeless the start. The worst of Leamball, slow passing round the back then hoof to Marriott to lose the header over and over again

Just watching the highlights - the defending for the first two goals was comical. What was their guy on Marriott trying to do on the first - did he not think to try to head it? Good flick from Dorsett in there though

Second - keeper drops an easy cross then cherry on top when he yanks his defender to the ground as he was about to challenge Ward. Utterly inept

He looks like a player still trying to find his way in a different role for the team. He's quality at this level, he'll work it out soon enough.

Haven’t won a game yet this season, playing a side who pumped five past Luton at the weekend and are a decent well organised team.
Booing in the first twenty minutes of a cagey first half was moronic. Also, Dorsett is technically limited as a left back. This is because he isn’t one. Barracking and booing him when he makes a mistake is only going to damage his confidence further. I have no doubt that he is doing his level best in every game he plays there.

That we're capable of scoring goals without Wing playing well is a massive positive. He has too much quality at this level for his form not to improve, so we'll become even more dangerous then.
