1-1 at half time, a draw would send Bahrain through to play New Zealand in a play off game to see who goes to South Africa

Finished 1-1 so Bahrain go through to the play off against New Zealand on October 10th & November 14th to see who makes it to the world cup.

... because as was pointed out consistently through Eriksson's tenure, they can't play together in the centre of the park. Barry provides the base for the pair, plus a winger, to attack.

That was actually enjoyable. OK, its a pieced-together Croatia team and I think there was a certain amount of 'point-making' in the thrashing but an England side playing like a continental team? Christ.

Northern Ireland pretty much out, I think. Bit of a shame - close twice in two tournaments now.

Yup. Just checked the fixtures - Slovenia have a game in hand and one of their last two is against San Marino.

Group 1 could get fun - Portugal have two relatively easy games, Denmark play Sweden. Hungary could still play silly buggers.

Not sure why the commentators were criticising Johnson for the Croatia goal. Yes the guy got in a decent cross, but wingers are going to get crosses in every now and then. I'd be rather more worried about Terry and Upson ball watching leaving Eduardo in acres of space with no pressure.

Their goal was suspiciously offside as the number 10 was in an offside position before the header and pounced on the rebound after Green had saved it. I suppose the linesman felt sorry for Croatia.

Meanwhile, I see France were lucky enough to grab a draw. Still, they look in danger of missing out.

And LOL @ Argentina, I would love it if they missed out.

A much better match to watch than the England walk-over. A really fighting and gutsy performance that didn't get what it deserved. One gilt-edged chance in particular will haunt them for years.
