I can understand luring the sought-after David Silva to Eastlands for £140,000-a-week, but giving a quarter-of-a-million quid every seven days to a defensive squad player who no other club would have touched for that kind of money and whose name won’t sell shirts, is insanity on a previously unimagined scale. .

It's all set up perfectly for the last day - whilst Liverpool overcome a stubborn Newcastle 2-0, a jittery Citeh do everything but score against West Ham and then in the last minute, Andy Carroll rises like a salmon and gets his head to a corner, powering it past a dumbfounded Joe Hart who collapses to the ground in a JT-like heap of tears.

That was the day when we played brilliantly at Tranmere and won 3-1 in the first leg of the play-offs.
We stopped at a garage in Warrington and heard the closing stages of that game as Andy Cole missed another sitter and Blackburn under King Kenny won the title despite losing that day at Anfield.
Much as I would like to see Andy Carroll score the winning goal and Liverpool to put the final nail in Pardew's coffin it looks as though City are there and bookies now make them 1/40 to win it.

At a meeting today I spoke to someone whose colleague manages Chesterfields' U12 team.

One lad from Chesterfield U12's has gone to Man City, and part of the deal was that the 2 teams would play each other. Obviously this guy spoke to the Man. City U12 manager. Talk got onto remuneration; the Chesterfield guy said he gets his petrol paid when on Chesterfield U 12 work (going to games, training etc).

His equivalent at Man City is on £70k a year!
