Hmm that’s pushing it. A cross which the keeper would have caught if he’d been any good, and tbf Marriotts was all about his finish (imo his best goal for us) not the header before

Back home from the game. Poor 25 minutes, once we scored Earthy finally caught up with the pace of the game, and bossed it until he went off. First half MOTM Rino, he was immense.

El Gato - over-doing it with the footwork at times. Rightly booked, the ref had a long chat with him only five minutes earlier. Not sure he was completely in control of the ball when they had their disallowed one.
Dokes - good steady game, looks a decent player.
Dorsett - best I've seen him play. One poor sliced clearance, otherwise pretty steady, and a sublime through ball to Lisbie. It was "shoot", he wasn't getting booed. Did a great block of a goal-bound McGoldrick shot early on in the 2nd half.
Ward - OK
O'Connor - OK at best
Rino - excellent, carried the team on his own for the first 30 minutes
Wing - steady, had a hand in the first two goals, not at his best but always involved. I'm surprised at some people thinking he was sh1t, maybe they're new to football.
Lisbie - exciting, good end product. Took an on-field bollocking from Marriott for not passing, and set up the third almost immediately after. Good attitude.
Lane - excellent, steady game, looks a vast improvement on DK. If he stays fit, he'll get a long run in the team
Earthy - utterly anonymous for the first period, it was just passing him by, but excellent afterwards we'd scored. Always available, used it well. Looked really decent....after a shaky start.
Marriott - playing at least one division too low. A menace every time he had the ball.

agreed on Rinomhota - he looked lively and committed with that bit steel we've lacked for ages. Lane had a good game - again got about the pitch and defended/intercepted well. Bit harsh on Earthy I thought he initially looked tidy but grew into the game.

Disagree on Wing - he looks a shadow of his former self. Tended to play it safe/backwards, close passing was poor and seemed to be getting more frustrated as the game went on. Which is a shame because with Rinomhota central midfield looks a little more settled.

Marriot - well what is there to say. He's a goal machine in the vein of Cureton or Le Fondre. Lovely stuff.

Yeah, Wing was inconsistent. Some decent balls into the box, but for the most part, when confronted with any sort of pressure, he opted for a backwards pass rather than taking a chance with something more positive.

I’m all for showing some caution on the ball and don’t want players giving it away all the time, but you can’t sit around and wait for the perfect opportunity as It will rarely come. And too much “safe” passing can actually be dangerous.

The Marriott "assist" was a freebie though; it was barely a chance and Marriott made a goal out of it. Wing has given Savage many similar "assists" in his time.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but that was a pretty dull 5-0 win.
Maybe the dingy floodlights didn't help, but we went 2-0 up and were rubbish, Afterwards we improved and overall deserved to win big but I feel a bit meh about it all.
I'll take a 5-0 win any day though.
Is it just me? - probably.

I'd also like to see Wing dropped for Savage, just to see how that changes things. I rate Wing highly as one of our best players, but he doesn't seem to be at his best.

It was delivered in a sufficiently dangerous place that it created uncertainty between the defender and keeper as to who should be under neath it. This is classic league 1 chance making.

As evidenced when he played a backwards pass in the second half that put Ward in danger. Ward should've done better but there was a forward pass on for Wing and he decided to turn back.

He still had to

A) Make the correct decision to head it first time not take it down
B) Decide to head it to Marriot, not just lump it into the mixer
C) Put the correct weighting and direction on the header so that Marriott could control it.

These may seem like basics, but we are in League 1 and a lot of our players over the recent years fail in these basics. Football at this level is as much about making the right decisions as it is having the technique to pull it off and he did both.

Not only that but they didnt't even put the away team up or who had been carded or the goalscorers side by side. Looks like somone nipped over to Costco and bought the biggest telly they could find.....

Didn't know if the screen was new but what they out ion it lineus wise was indeed shite, yet the goalscorer pics were an improvement

On a similar tangent I liked (but didn't really care about) the dynamic floodlights, although they should do it during Sirius to totally rip off the Bulls

Big difference between saying someone is shit and saying someone has just played shit.

In my view, Wing hasn't been great since about January; this isn't just a this season thing. Something has happened- confidence? Getting old and past it? Or just a genuine drop in form. I'm sure we will find out in the coming months. I'm going for the latter, and I'm sure his performances will pick up
